Ultimate Summer Goals: Be fab and healthy

Now that the summer season is just around the corner, most people are starting to plan their vacations and beach escapades. For some, especially the kids, it is also the perfect time to stay at home, eat cold treats and, enjoy the company of their family and friends.

However, the season doesn’t mean you should slack off on your health. To make the most out of your summer, Beko Philippines, empowering new generations to live healthier, helps you figure out what you can do to achieve you and your family’s ultimate summer goal—to become healthy and stay hydrated during summer.

Abundance of fruits and veggies
There are plenty of in-season fruits during the summer like Avocado, Pineapple, Mango, Watermelon, Coconut, and Banana. Satisfy your sweet cravings with these instead of eating chocolates, cakes, or doughnuts. You can also try making fruit smoothies and add in some vegetables like spinach, which is a healthy way to beat the heat this season.

Perfect for outdoor activities
Summer is arguably one of our favorite seasons—and for good reasons. Since the days are longer, the season is the perfect time to do outdoor activities like swimming or hiking.
Doing physical activities or exercise not only help reduce the risk of diseases like type 2 diabetes, cancer, and cardiovascular disease but also presents immediate and long-term health benefits to the body.

You can get your kids involved in cooking
The school year will either be out or winding down this summer, which leaves your kids plenty of time to engage in activities. Why not take this opportunity to get them involved in the kitchen?

It not only makes for a good bonding moment but also helps your kids veer away from making unhealthy food choices like junk food and sweets. This is important since health often takes a back seat during this season since it is a time when families often go on vacations.

While cooking with the family is a great way to spend time during the summer, it is important to note that the hot weather can cause food to spoil quickly. In fact, leaving them out for too long at room temperature can cause bacteria or viruses to grow to dangerous levels. To avoid food spoilage, consider using RCNT415E50VZWB, a 14.6cuft, Top Mount No Frost, Dual Cooling Inverter Refrigerator.

The refrigerator has an EverFresh+® technology, which is perfect for those diet-delayers. It allows unconsumed fruit and vegetables to sit comfortably in a special crisper compartment for up to 30 days.

The RCNT415E50VZWB also comes with a Beko ProSmart™ Inverter Compressor so you can open the door of the fridge for a good nose inside, as well as adapt and create fewer temperature variations to cool your food quickly.

Meanwhile, its NeoFrost™ dual cooling technology helps to maintain high humidity in the fridge, while keeping the freezer dry, frozen and frost-free. Coupled with two times faster cooling, this system retains moisture for longer it. And, with two separate fans, there are no nasty odor transfers between the fridge and freezer compartments. Its Beko Active Fresh Blue Light™ technology, on the other hand, protects vitamin C intensity in vegetables and keep the natural flavors and nutritional elements in your healthy food intact.

Lastly, Its IonGuard® technology helps remove odors in your fridge by circulating negative ions that neutralize bacteria and particles that cause odors.

Madame Tussauds Hong Kong unveils Pia Wurtzbach as the first ever Filipino wax figure

Get ready to watch history in the making as Madame Tussauds Hong Kong’s first-ever Filipino wax figure is launched in Manila! Celebrate Filipino excellence, meet the iconic Pia Wurtzbach, and see her wax figure at the #PiaMadeIconic Travel Festival on March 29 at the SM Mega Fashion Hall.

Visitors of the Travel Festival will not only be able to meet Pia Wurtzbach, they’ll also get to be the first ones to see and take selfies with the first Filipino wax figure. After much discussion on what the figure’s final pose would be, it was decided that it would capture the Miss Universe crowning moment so fans and guests can experience what it’s like to be crowned by Pia herself. “We want all of you to experience what it’s like to strike your most confidently beautiful pose and receive the crown for yourselves!” Pia says.

Pia’s wax figure wears a replica of the iconic Swarovski-embellished royal blue ball gown by Michael Cinco, which she wore when she passed on the crown in 2016. The dress was tailor-made by the designer himself, saying, “Dressing up her wax figure and to represent our country [are] already an honor and a great experience in my career. It is an impalpable dream come true.”

Pia Wurtzbach, the first filipino wax figure

The reveal has been highly anticipated by Filipinos and fans around the world, with details about the wax figure being released slowly over the course of several months. The event is made even more historic by the fact that is the first time a wax figure is being flown to its home country before being brought to its permanent location.

After the unveiling, it will be brought to its permanent home in Hong Kong where it will join some of the world’s biggest icons at Madame Tussauds Hong Kong, including Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Michelle Yeoh, Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, and Siwon Choi.

“Our Filipino guests have always been very important to us and we’ve always believed we should have a Filipino wax figure, so we’re very pleased to have Ms. Pia Wurtzbach mark this milestone with us,” says Madame Tussauds Hong Kong General Manager Jenny You. “We can’t imagine having anyone but her to represent the Philippines in this way.”

Proud parents of Pia

As a beauty queen, actress, and humanitarian, it’s no surprise that Pia was selected to become the pioneer Filipino wax figure at the world-renowned attraction. “When I found out, I was so excited. I couldn’t believe it! In my head, this is something only happens to big stars,” Pia says. “Now, thinking that I’m going to be one of them, I’m very honored, I’m very grateful.

The Travel Festival, where the wax figure will be unveiled, is a result of a partnership between three major travel brands. Premium airline Cathay Pacific, a world leading travel and activities booking platform Klook, and of course, Madame Tussauds Hong Kong are coming together to provide frequent and first-time flyers to Hong Kong with enticing travel packages and other fun activities throughout the day.

Early birds at the travel festival will be able to enjoy a limited number of exclusive packages that bundle a Cathay Pacific ticket to Hong Kong and a Madame Tussauds Hong Kong pass, redeemable via the Klook app. Cathay Pacific and Klook ambassadors will be supporting the travel fair as well.

“For over 70 years, Cathay Pacific has been committed to making sure Filipinos can enjoy traveling in the best way possible,” says Cathay Pacific Philippines Country Manager Rob Bradshaw. “Hong Kong has always been a very important destination for us as this is what we consider to be the airline’s home, and being able to bring Hong Kong and the Philippines even closer together means a lot to us. Cathay Pacific, Klook, and Madame Tussauds Hong Kong are working together for the first time to enrich the Hong Kong experience for first-time and frequent flyers, and we’re very excited about being able to take Filipinos see Pia’s wax figure at Madame Tussauds Hong Kong.”

“Klook really aims to make sought-after attractions accessible to every traveler. Based on the number of admirers Pia won over during her reign as Miss Universe, we can tell that Madame Tussauds in Hong Kong will be a must-visit for Pinoys now that an icon like Pia will be housed there. It’s an extremely proud moment for us,” adds Michelle Cruz, Klook Philippines' Market Lead.

“More than being a queen, she has all the makings of an icon and we’re proud to be able to house her wax figure at Madame Tussauds Hong Kong for the rest of the world to be able to interact with,” she adds. “We’re very pleased that we’re partnering with Cathay Pacific and Klook in enriching the Hong Kong travel experience and celebrating Filipino excellence on a global scale.”

Madame Tussauds Hong Kong is home to immersive and interactive zones that bring to life iconic personalities and cultural landmarks throughout history, including those in entertainment, sports, science, politics, and fashion. Do you fall into #MalnutritionTraps?

The country has been facing the rise on the number of underweight and overweight Filipinos for more than 20 years. The World Health Organization (WHO) defined this phenomenon as the “Double Burden of Malnutrition” or the “prevalence of both undernutrition and overweight in the same community, nation, or region.”

To address this problem, our government launched the Pinggang Pinoy® campaign in 2014. Pinggang Pinoy® is an easy-to-understand food guide showing proper food group portioning on a per-meal basis. This reflects the principles of MOderation, VAriety and BAlance (MOVABA) to promote healthier eating habits.

Solving the Philippines’ Double Burden of Malnutrition should be a collaborative effort between the public and private sectors as it is not an easy feat. With this, Ajinomoto Philippines Corporation partnered with government agencies to conduct education programs to raise awareness and promote the practice of Pinggang Pinoy® in malnutrition hotspots, where incidences of Double Burden Malnutrition are high. This training was given to homemakers/mothers who have malnourished (underweight, stunting, wasting, overweight and obese) school-aged children.

The pilot run resulted to improvements of the knowledge & attitudes of households related to the practice of Pinggang Pinoy® within target areas. However, behavior changes towards healthier eating habits remains to be a challenge. The program uncovered a number #MalnutritionTraps that some Pinoy households easily fall into. The following #MalnutritionTraps provide a picture of how unhealthy eating habits may lead to Double Burden of Malnutrition:

1. Overconsumption of carbohydrates: Voracious rice eaters can easily fill half of their plates with rice. Others have pandesal & noodles as regular meal deprived of other nutrients derived from a well-balanced meal.

2. Under consumption of vegetables and/fruits: It is common for some to be content with rice & meat to satisfy their hunger and skip/take insufficient amount of vegetables/fruits. Fact is, the variety of colors found in Glow foods are important sources of vitamins & minerals to sustain our energy & keep us from getting sick.

3. Overconsumption of protein
Typical Filipino “SILOG” meals include double serving of proteins (e.g. Tapa+Itlog, Tocino+Itlog, Longanisa+Itlog, Bangus+Itlog). Eating different kinds of protein is fine for as long as they are taken in moderation. We must also avoid protein dishes served high in fat, cholesterol and sodium.

To help Filipinos break free from #MalnutritionTraps, Ajinomoto’s Culinary Nutrition Team prepared Healthy & Delicious Pinggang Pinoy® Recipes, downloadable through https://bit.ly/2HIsfkj. Busy and budget-restricted homemakers will also find these Pinggang Pinoy® recipes useful because all are easy-to-do and affordable (P250/day for family of 5).

eComapareMo.com : Financial marketplace celebrates women entrepreneurs

Just last year, the Philippines was rated as the ninth best market for women entrepreneurs in the world in a report by global payments company Mastercard.
The Philippines made the top 10, the only market not in the developing world to do so. The only other Southeast Asian country in the top 10 is Singapore.

The report found that women entrepreneurs in the Philippines benefit from what is considered a gender-friendly business environment.

By becoming entrepreneurs, women are given the opportunity to channel their energy and passion into projects that help them gain financial independence. Women who go into business for themselves have the satisfaction of not just seeing their enterprises grow but also of knowing that they can support themselves and their loved ones.

Online financial marketplace eCompareMo.com salutes hardworking and ambitious Filipino entrepreneurs. As part of their advocacy to help Filipinos make better financial decisions, they want to help the Filipina in her drive to become a successful entrepreneur.

In line with that, eCompareMo.com hosted “#SHERules: Filipinas Who Change The Way We Do Business,” a roundtable discussion on empowering women through entrepreneurship, which took place on March 27 at the Rockwell Club in Makati City.

#SHERules esteemed panelists included Department of Trade and Industry Regional Operations Group assistant secretary Blesila Lantayona; Financial Literacy Advocate Daniela Laurel; and Camille Villar, managing director of Vista Land and Lifescapes and daughter of recently named Forbes’ Richest Filipino, Manny Villar. They join eCompareMo.com’s Chief Operating Officer, Ched Limson, in speaking about the unique challenges and triumphs faced by Filipina entrepreneurs today.

“The power of women is often underestimated, both by themselves and others. I’m so proud to be able to highlight just how the Filipina can harness her inner strength and channel it through entrepreneurship,” said Limson.

“Through our online financial marketplace, we give everyone who wants to grow their business access to financing through a wide selection of loans with low interest rates and light payment terms. Whether you’re looking for seed capital or extra funds to expand your business, we can help you find the right loan to suit your needs,” she added.
About eCompareMo

eCompareMo.com is the Philippines’ largest online financial supermarket for credit card, loan, investment, and insurance services. Launched in 2014, it is the first and only portal in the country to provide end-to-end services, from product comparison to application to approval. It is also the first fintech company to offer a Car Insurance Concierge—giving car owners complete assistance in getting their first policy, insurance renewal, and claims settlement.

Soar high with “Dumbo" at SM Cinema

Our family was able to watch the advance screening of DUMBO at SM Aura Cinema, Monday night. I remember, my daughter already told me a month ago that she would really love to see this film. And it's granted!

Hold on to your feathers and get ready to soar as SM Cinema presents Dumbo, a live-action remake of the beloved Disney classic.

In this heart-wrenching fantasy, struggling circus owner Max Medici (Danny DeVito) hires former circus star Holt Farrier (Colin Farrell) and his children to take care of Dumbo, a baby elephant who is mocked for having gigantic ears. However, the sudden discovery that he can fly turns Dumbo from laughingstock to the star of the show, regaining the circus’ former glory and captivating ambitious businessman, V.A. Vandevere (Michael Keaton). Dumbo’s fame skyrockets as he is pulled into the Vandevere’s newest attraction, Dreamland, until Holt uncovers the dark secrets lurking within its extravagant exterior.

Directed by Tim Burton, Dumbo stars Danny Devito as Max Medici, Colin Farrell as Holt Farrier, Eva Green as Colette Marchant, Michael Keaton as V.A. Vandevere, Nico Parker as Milly Farrier, and Finley Hobbins as Joe Farrier.

Fly high as Dumbo will have its advance screening in different parts of the country, March 23 at SM City Clark and SM Seaside City Cebu, March 24 at SM Lanang Premier and March 25 at SM Aura Premier.

Catch Dumbo starting March 27 at SM Cinema branches nationwide. Book your tickets through the website, www.smcinema.com or download the SM Cinema mobile app.

How to Fall in Love with Your Kitchen... Again?

A kitchen is a place of reinvention, imagination, and experimentation. It welcomes trial and error. Every spill and stain on each surface sticks in your memory. Here, you stumble, yet, you pursue good decisions for an active and healthy lifestyle. You shave off a little from your monthly food budget so that your shelves are well-stocked. You remember good times—delicious times.

However, the kitchen is one of the hardest parts of the house to maintain. Not only is it difficult to organize cooks wares, but it can also be tasking, especially when you see that things are not in good condition or properly stored.

To savor only good memories, Beko Philippines, empowering new generations to live healthier, in line with its Eat Like a Pro advocacy, listed fun activities to make your kitchen an ideal setting for healthy meal preps. Make this area of your house into something that resembles your proper lifestyle choices.

Declutter

Remember the day you promised to take better care of yourself by eating healthy?  Why not start by reorganizing the pantry and put careful thought in each produce you place inside.

Check around and discard anything that went beyond its expiration date, as well as disposing rusted utensils. A clean slate would allow a brighter vision for food preparation and goal-setting. Your kitchen wall is your new springboard for future activities involving a ton of fun, healthy activities.

Remodel

You know how boring it is to stay with a plan, especially at the beginning. You can avoid this slump by adding a few changes to your culinary setting. Tap into your creativity and add a few patterns to your walls or floors. Investing in a few kitchen products cements the idea that you plan to take this lifestyle with you as you grow in the coming years.

Reorganize

Group fruits in a basket. Place basic cooking essentials like salt, pepper, and eggs on a counter within arm’s reach. Make sure to only group groceries that are only beneficial to you. Instead of a sugar station, swap it with stevia or honey. Store herbs and other seasonings, not cookies, in jars. For a feeling of warmth, hook garlic on walls. Label things in the pantry if necessary. This tasteful arrangement appeals to your eyes and sets a commitment to pursue dietary ambitions.

Create

Now that you know where things are, it’s time to prepare dishes with your new kitchen items. Blend smoothies using recipes you’ve been craving to try out. Add energizing scents like citrus or cinnamon in the air as a cue for creative creations. Invite someone over to witness all the hard work you’ve put into the place and talk about how you’ll carry this discipline and creativity into your activities.

Give yourself a pat on the back now that you’ve organized the pantry, restocked all the basics, and cleaned the walls and the floors. But, don’t stop there. Consider getting another home solution that fits in with the new kitchen look.

To ensure that fruits and vegetables stay fresh, consider using RDNT360E20VZWB, a 12.7cuft, Top Mount No Frost, Dual Cooling Inverter Refrigerator by Beko Philippines.

The refrigerator provides a decent space in its special crisper compartment for storing snacks and has an EverFresh+® technology, which regulates and controls humidity to allow produces to stay fresh for up to 30 days.

Along with giving a handy space for your snacks, the refrigerator also has Beko Active Fresh Blue Light™ technology that continues the photosynthesizing process of your fruits.

The RDNT360E20VZWB comes with IonGuard®, a technology that removes odors in your fridge by circulating negative ions that remove bacteria and other odor-causing particles, as well as NeoFrost™ dual cooling technology that keeps products in the freezer fresh while avoiding excess ice.

Finally, RDNT360E20VZWB offers its Beko ProSmart™ Inverter Compressor Motor. This technology enhances the cooling efficiency of the refrigerator maintaining an even temperature inside which keep produces fresher longer without consuming much energy, and electricity, while the compressor remains silently running.

I am #KilayReady because of The Aesthetic Studio By Kristine Lucas

How true is the statement “Kilay is Life”?

To me, it is so true. Seeing me without eyebrows (kilay) is a turn-off. I literally look like a new born baby. That’s how my friends or colleagues used to tease me. That is why, before leaving the house, I got to make it sure that I was able to draw my eyebrows. Nowadays, a woman could be judge by some as unprofessional, sloppy or no fashion sense. Anyways, I don't really care that much how others would judge me with my eyebrows. In my case, it is my own choice. "Kilay is life" to me because I feel more confident whenever I wear my brows. I can definitely look good on photos specially when I am out for an event or just out for a walk. #KilayReady is of course #KodakReady life.

I conquered my fear.

Today marks one week of one of the Best Big decisions that I made in my life. To finally have a professional touch my eyebrows.

I have a fear of needles. Of which I was not able to avoid during giving birth to my daughter. But other than that, I do not have needle encounters aside from pricking my finger to check my blood sugar from time to time. And it’s just quick and that’s it.

Last Friday, honestly, I dragged myself to face my fear. Was even about to back-out after hearing someone’s experience the same time I was about to have my schedule.

My Permanent Makeup Academy Ph experience.

To my surprise, it was a pleasant experience to remember. All the while I thought, having my eyebrows make-over will cause me so much pain and suffering. I stand corrected. Thanks to Ms. Kristine Lucas for having a long stretch of patience even before the final session schedule. And I thank God for the word anesthesia. It can make our life less painful.

The bubbly personality of Ms. Kristine Lucas really helped during my Ombre Powder Brows session. I can say, anesthesia + Kristine Lucas = wonderful experience! It took less than an hour and tadahhhh, I finally got my KILAY (eyebrows)!

How my eyebrows was done?

1st Step
Anesthesia application

2nd Step
Drawing of eyebrows pattern

3rd Step
The JOB!

See, I can still even smile while having my needle session. My first time to have my brows manage by the Master Artist, Kristine Lucas. This is one of the best decision I've ever made in my life. Also with great encouragement from my college BFF  and UBP co-founder, Bette Medina.

Here's my first 3 days with my Ombre Powder Brows.

Really loving my #KilayReady life. I can save 20-30 minutes of my time doing my eyebrows manually. I can also save from eyebrow pencil and powder for the next 3 years. This is a wise investment that you can give yourself ladies.

Imagine waking up with your eyebrows ready! I can now spend my other 30 minutes to something else than to make my not so perfect eyebrows.
