World-class natural remedy for Filipina beauty & wellness expert’s crowning glory

Hair loss is a concern for both men and women. It can have a devastating effect to anyone who experiences it.

According to Web MD, the average adult head has about 100,000 to 150,000 strands of hair and loses up to 100 of them a day, which is normal. As people age, their rate of hair growth slows, and they can experience losing more than hundreds of strands which is quite alarming. So what can you do to prevent it?

For beauty and wellness expert, Cory Quirino, embracing wellness is the first step to help improve the hair’s condition and make people look younger.

“If you choose to have a wellness lifestyle, then expect wonderful changes such as radiant skin, energy, and a general sense of well-being,” she emphasizes. “In time, you will realize that you have successfully delayed the aging process.”

The beauty and wellness expert says that choosing wellness as a lifestyle includes eating nutritious food, exercising, getting a good sleep, drinking generous amounts of water, managing stress, getting enough sunshine, and above all, staying positive.

On top of a daily healthy regimen, a supplement is necessary to maintain a healthy hair and scalp. Many people opt to use chemical-based products. But for her, the use of natural products is a must and the best solution for hair loss.

“There are hair treatment products in the market today that claim to be effective but their ingredients could contain chemicals that may prove harmful with long-term use,” she enthuses. “Choose natural. Say NO to harsh chemicals and let nature do the makeover,” she emphasizes.

Natural ingredients such as virgin coconut oil (VCO) and aloe vera are loaded with beneficial properties, which boost the health of the scalp and hair. These and much more natural herbs and essential oils can be found in NOVUHAIR, a topical scalp lotion with 19 natural ingredients that work in synergy to help prevent hair loss, which the beauty and wellness expert approves of.

“Even if I have been blessed with thick hair, I know that it has to be cared for,” she maintains. “I use NOVUHAIR topical scalp lotion once daily in the evening before bedtime. Next morning, I apply it on my scalp again, then a shampoo after 30 minutes. Those who wish to further thicken the hair, it is a must to also use the shampoo and conditioner daily.”

Eventually, she noticed impressive effects after using this breakthrough product: significant lessening of hair fall, abundant growth of tress, and the return of locks’ luster.

Apart from being effective, it’s a very safe solution, too. A local clinical study has proven that NOVUHAIR has no adverse side effects with continuous use.

Moreover, NOVUHAIR is not just for those who experience hair loss. Younger people, especially the millennials, can use it for maintenance or prevention if hair loss runs in the family.

Cory recommends NOVUHAIR to everyone, especially to those who want to maintain their hair the best way they can. For her, this globally-competitive natural product answers the needs of a discriminating, health-conscious public.

Born on August 11, the granddaughter of the late Philippine President Elpidio Quirino is an author, and television and radio host. She has been a strong advocate for natural health, beauty, and wellness for more than two decades.

“Twenty years ago, it was as simple a goal as weight loss. But when I saw the dramatic effect it had on my vitality and complexion, I knew that this was the good path to take. For those who wish the same things I wanted then, this would be just as easy to embrace,” Cory recalls.

She wrote a series of best-seller books entitled “Forever Young”, which feature beauty and health tips as well as her own workout programs. Likewise, she also made a fitness video called “Cory Quirino’s Celebrity Workout for Beginners”.

For her, living in the 21st century has its challenges. She says: “The best way to live long and be well is to live a natural life.”

Truly, for a natural woman like Cory, her crowning glory deserves nothing but a world-class natural remedy that is NOVUHAIR.

Electrolux challenges women to change the way they do laundry at the FashionCare Season 2 Launch

Washing machines have become a reliable partner of many Filipino households in doing their laundry as it saves more time than washing by hand. Yet when it comes to caring for clothes, many women still have trust issues when it comes to their washing machines. That is the concern that Electrolux seeks to address as it launches the second season of its FashionCare Campaign, which seeks to change the way women do their laundry.

Laundry Woes

To find out more about women’s laundry woes, Electrolux Philippines conducted a research in partnership with Mommy Mundo, one of the country’s leading mom communities. When asked about what fabrics they were afraid to wash using their washing machine, 67% of the respondent moms say that they are afraid to machine wash their silk clothing, followed by delicate wear (52%), cashmere clothing (40%), and wool clothing (39%).

Among the top reasons why women hesitate to put their clothes in washing machines are more than half of them or 58% think it might ruin the clothes, while some think that machine wash can cause fabric shrinkage (17%) or fading of colors (4%).

When it comes to doing laundry, moms worry about more than just cleaning. Among their top 3 laundry concerns are pilling of clothes or what we call himulmol, stubborn stains and misshaping of clothes - two of them are related to caring for the fabric. Fabric care remains one of the unfulfilled needs of moms as 77% of these women look for fabric care features when they buy washing machines.

The FashionCare Challenge

With women’s laundry concerns in mind, Electrolux created the UltimateCare line of washing machines and dryers, designed to help women care for their clothes.

At the FashionCare Season 2 Launch Party, Electrolux Philippines FashionCare Ambassador Rajo Laurel and FashionCare Council Members Amina Aranaz-Alunan and Janice Villanueva put the UltimateCare washer-dryer to the test.

Renowned fashion designer and Electrolux FashionCare Ambassador Rajo Laurel challenged Electrolux to wash one of his designer pieces.

“My passion for clothes extends to how I take care of them. Doing your laundry is more than just about making your clothes clean. It’s making sure that your clothes look better, newer, longer,” shared Rajo during the event.

Meanwhile Amina Aranaz-Alunan, founder, executive director and teacher of SoFA Design Institute, and Creative Director of fashion accessories and bag label ARANÁZ, put in a silk scarf, saying that she normally wouldn’t wash silk tops, scarves, knitted items and sweaters in the wash as they “might break, have holes or snag.”

Janice Villlanueva, successful mompreneur and founder of Mommy Mundo, likewise shared the same apprehensions.

“For items like formal wear, underwear, and knits, I’m always afraid to put it in the wash because it can damage the fabric and it will fade or get deformed,” Villanueva said. “Especially if the bras have underwire, or for formal clothes, it might shrink, or for knitwear, it might stretch out of shape.”

Designed to care for clothes

Electrolux is confident that its latest line of washing machines would rise to the challenge as its UltimateCare washing machines comes with UltraMix™ technology to help moms not only get better stain removal but better fabric care, helping them retain the color, shape, and softness of their clothes from delicate wear to designer pieces.

The UltraMix technology gives women the results of a hot wash for better stain and dirt removal, yet uses a lower, gentler temperature. Detergent and water are pre-mixed in a special chamber before the beginning of the cycle to maximize cleaning power at a lower temperature. It delivers deeper clean and 31% better colour care, to ensure your favorites look newer for longer

Besides the powerful yet gentle cleaning of UltraMix, Electrolux UltimateCare washing machines extend the life of clothes with Vapour Action, designed to soften fabric while reducing allergens by up to 99.9% that’s gives women the assurance of better care for your clothes for years to come. The Woolmark certified cycle approved by the Woolmark Company, the global authority on wool, will safely launder these precious garments.

Electrolux UltimateCare washing machines also has Eco Inverter technology that offers high energy efficiency that reduces energy consumption by 75% and save time by 44%. Women can also enjoy the flexibility and convenience to toss in forgotten items during the washing cycle with add clothes feature.

“As a mom, I understand that many women still prefer to handwash certain items of clothing but we at Electrolux want to share that now, there is a washing machine that cares for your clothes and your family’s clothes as much as you do,” shared Andrea Pionilla, Country Marketing Manager of Electrolux. “With the FashionCare Campaign, Electrolux wants to introduce a better way of taking care of our machine wash-sensitive clothes. With the Electrolux UltimateCare washing machines and dryers, you not only get cleaning but fabric care that makes clothes look newer for longer.”

In line with its FashionCare campaign, Electrolux is offering several great deals on its washing machines, with offers up to 25% off on selected front load washing machines and washer dryers.  Women can also avail of selected Electrolux Front Load Washing Machines and get 25% off on an Electrolux Front Load Dryer. Also included is a free stacking kit and installation valued at PhP 3,049 with this fantastic bundle deal. Promo period runs from July 1 to September 30, 2018.

Tanduay's Absolut Distillers Bares Php1.3 Billion Expansion to Strengthen Green Initiatives

Tanduay subsidiary Absolut Distillers Inc. (ADI), under the leadership of Lucio “Bong” K. Tan Jr., is investing around P1.3 billion for its three-year expansion plan to improve and strengthen its renewable energy initiatives.

ADI chief operating officer Gerardo Tee revealed the short-term expansion program will bring the total power generation capacity from the company's distillery operations in Lian, Batangas to 12 megawatts (MW).

The 100 KLPD Bioethanol Plant in Lian, Batangas is another proof of the unceasing commitment of ADI in promoting renewable energy for sustainable development.

"We have been acquiring land within our area of operations as we prepare to expand our investment in renewal energy. The plan includes the establishment of our own cane mill,” Tee said.

Bulk of the investment of more than P700 million will be used to put up a cane mill that will not only boost the company's operations, but also provide a venue for sugarcane farmers to sell their produce.

"The mill will be setup for raw material security and create additional income for the farmers, giving them more options… One of our dreams is to set up a small mill so that we will be independent of this molasses, which is a very hard commodity to reckon with. Our raw material is molasses," Tee explained.

The mill, which will have a capacity of 1,800 tons cane per day, will also allow ADI to convert its bagasse to electricity with a target capacity of 3.5 MW.

Meanwhile, ADI is investing around P100 million for its bioethanol expansion that will increase the capacity of its bioethanol facility to 150,000 liters per day from 115,000 liters per day at present.

The company is also expanding its solar power project in the Lian facility. ADI currently owns a 2 MW solar farm whose electricity output is sold to the grid.

Tee said the company is also planning to put up an additional 3 MW to 5 MW solar project (combination of solar rooftop and ground mounted solar panels) at a cost of $1.3 million to $1.4 million per MW.

The expansion would also include investment in a facility that will convert wastewater to electricity that can produce around 3.5 MW, Tee said.

"We are also pursuing wastewater to energy. There is a good potential for a biogas system," he said.

Tee said ADI is continuously looking at technologies that can further improve efficiency and reduce electricity cost.

"It's always on our mind on how to develop further our environmental facilities," he said.

Tanduay Distillers also owns Asian Alcohol in Pulupandan, Negros. The billion-peso investment in ADI does not include the expansion plans for Asian Alcohol, Tee concluded.

Financial empowerment: Teaching your kids smart financial habits

Money has always been a tricky topic. Parents who wish for their children to have clear and sound ideas about money should make sure that their children hear about it at home.

Teaching your kids about money will help them get the relationship between saving and spending, have an understanding of the value of money, and develop good financial habits along the way.

There are many ways to teach your children about money, but here are five things you can do to raise financially smarter children:

Start them early.
Children are primarily influenced by their environment, so it’s good to start them on financial literacy early.

Teaching your kids about money doesn’t mean setting up a crash course on accounting for preschoolers. Make the learning process as natural as possible, by taking day-to-day activities and turning them into learning experiences. You can start with toys, like coin banks and toy cash registers, which encourage kids to learn basic math and money skills. Alternatively, you can also include the use of money when tutoring them with their math homework!

Lead by example.
Taking an active role in teaching your kids about financial literacy through baby steps will ensure big payoffs in the future. Seeing their parents splurge on a new gadget every month won’t help in getting kids to understand the value of hard-earned money, but having them come along to a trip in the grocery store where they can see the price differences of common goods may help them ask the right questions and infer the smarter financial decision on their own.

Teach them the value of delayed gratification.
As parents, it may be difficult to prevent your child from asking for something they want so badly—and that’s normal. But delayed gratification is an idea that children will have to be well-acquainted with. If your child wants to buy a toy, for example, explain to them how much money is going to be left in their savings if they buy and pay for the toy. By asking your kids questions like, or “Is it worth it?” or “How important is it to you?”, they can better evaluate their options and make better decisions. Coax them out of buying a trinket they just saw at the store and get them to save the money to buy a toy they’ve been wanting for months instead. Not only will they understand the value of money, but they’ll also likely play with the toy for a longer amount of time because they worked hard to get it.

Give them the power to make decisions.
After sharing what you can with your kids about handling finances better, it’s important that they take your lessons and apply them. Most parents give their kids piggy banks to try and encourage them to save, but BPI-Philam Life Assurance Corporation CEO Surendra Menon had a pretty unconventional approach.

He taught his then 9-and-a-half-year-old daughter about finance by giving her seed money for investing. He also gave her free rein over the stocks she wanted to invest in, in the process teaching her the importance of facing the consequences of her decisions. While he and his wife stood back and let their daughter take the wheel, Menon recounts seeing her become more observant about everyday happenings around her, learning to strategize ways to make the most out of her budget.

The moral of the story is not that you have to be a CEO to teach your kids about finance. It is possible to recreate this learning method with your kids, even on a smaller scale. In any given situation, encourage them to get to know all of their options, and after a thorough evaluation, have them decide on their own. This way, kids will learn firsthand the importance of responsible decision-making and being accountable for their actions.

Help them open their first bank account.
Introduce to them the idea of banking and how a having savings account is a secure way to keep and grow their money. When opening your child’s savings account, make sure to bring them to an actual bank, and have them meet some of the people who work there.

BPI’s Jumpstart Savings lets you enjoy the convenience of the Scheduled Funds Transfer facility which credits your child’s allowance from your enrolled BPI account to theirs regularly. The regular transfer provides you a worry-free means of ensuring that your child has allowance every day.

It is also especially designed to instil the discipline of saving to your kids. It comes with a Guaranteed Savings feature which holds a certain amount in their account to protect their savings from impulsive withdrawals. They can also use the debit card for mobile phone reloading via ATMs, giving you the peace of mind that your children will never be out of spending resources in case of an emergency.

Children who learn money management skills early on have good chances of ending up in a better position financially when they grow older. BPI is and will always be your family’s partner in ensuring that your children have a secure financial landscape ahead of them.

Millennials Making Financial Progress, but Efforts Thwarted by Influence of Social Media

Millennials are often labeled as being financially irresponsible, spending too much on frivolous things or experiences, but they are actually positioning themselves to be in better financial shape than other generations, according to the Generations Ahead Study from Allianz. The study found that 77% of millennials feel financially confident (compared to only 64% of Gen Xers).
Further supporting this financial progress, 41% of millennials reported they always set aside money each month for saving (compared to only 36% of Gen Xers) and 58% believe saving for retirement is a basic necessity, like food or housing. Many millennials (71%) also use “tricks” to make saving money easier. For example, the majority of them use several different accounts to automatically save their money for specific purposes (one for everyday expenses, one for a particular loan, one for a special trip, etc.).

Social Media Dangers
As their financial strength builds, however, social media has become the millennials’ financial Achilles’ heel. More than half (55%) reported experiencing a fear of missing out (FOMO) and 57% spent money they hadn’t planned to because of what they saw on their social media feeds. The vast majority (88%) of millennial respondents also believe social media creates more of a tendency to compare one’s wealth/lifestyle with others (versus 71% of Gen Xers and 54% of boomers). Sixty-one percent feel inadequate about their own life and what they have because of social media. And perhaps due to this FOMO, half also claim they spend more money going out than they do on rent or mortgage.
Learning from the past, seeking help for the future
Recent financial traumas witnessed by millennials have also had a profound effect. Nearly a quarter (24%) of millennials saw their parents suffer a major financial setback during the recession of 2008-2009 and possibly because of this, 57% said they are unlikely to ever invest in the stock market. Additionally, 65% are uncomfortable with too much debt because they saw their parents struggle with it.
The study also found that this generation is the most open to getting help. While the vast majority of millennials (70%) use online apps or tools to help them manage their money, human support is still very valuable to them. In fact, 40% of millennials said they have a financial professional and work closely with them (compared to only 25% of Gen Xers). They also prefer to communicate in person with a financial professional (42% ranked it as their first choice with phone communication coming in second at 19%). Many millennials believe having a financial professional would give them some relief from the pressure of trying to plan for their family’s future, as 70% are overwhelmed by the thought of how they could provide for themselves and their family in the long term.
