GUMTECT Food Trek Adventure : A Day To Remember Reminding Us to Take Care Of Our Gums and Teeth

When you hear Maginhawa what comes first to your mind? FOOD! Yes, a street full of exciting food to explore. Last week, me together with my fellow foodie bloggers took the challenge called Gumtect Food Trek. It was a mouth-full adventure. A food crawl with a twist of unexpected challenges that surprised us all.

I was actually clueless as to how our adventure will go. Then we were given a short orientation and divided us into 5 groups to work together as a team. Each group consist of 4-5 members. I got in to green team with great fighting spirit!

First Stop at Gerry's Jeepney, a quite interesting place to dine in. They offer delicious Filipino dishes in small or  big amount of serving. They serve big meals for boodle fight as well. Inside Gerry's Jeepney, you can have a unique experience of having your meal inside their themed jeepney.

After our first meal, Dr. JV Jaurigue, External Vice President of the Philippine Society of Periodontology, talked about the connection of gum health with overall health and stressed the importance of proper oral care. "Oral care is essential to our health. Rather than dealing with complications and difficulties of gum diseases, it is better to prevent them from happening,” he shared.

According to a study in 2011 by the National Monitoring and Evaluation Dental Survey, 48% of Filipinos suffer from some form of gum disease. Receding gums are often accompanied with tooth sensitivity.

Commonly caused by wearing of the thin outer covering of the tooth (enamel), over-brushing, acidic food, and gum receding, pangingilo or dental hypersensitivity begins when the inner part of the tooth is uncovered. This results to an oh-so-familiar brief yet sharp sensation of tooth sensitivity.

Gumtect Brand Marketing Manager, Atria Casidsid also talked about how Gumtect Gumcare and Gumtect Sensitive are especially formulated to help promote healthy gums so that gum problems won’t get in the way of holiday fun.

GUMTECT FOOD TREK CHALLENGE #1

For this first food trip we had the all-time favourite Sinigang Salmon sa Miso, Pusit ala Pobre, and Chicken Inasal/BBQ. Of course, my young foodie daughter loved the Salmon Sinigang, her very favorite sour soup-based viand. It's like our early lunch.I almost got full with this first meal.

This Mais Con Hielo Challenge gave me so much reason to  care more about my teeth. This challenge may look easy for those who are watching. But it's not! After having hot meals, switching to this cold cup of desserts can cause you pangingilo if your teeth are not healthy.Though it's not the pangingilo that bothered me in this game. It's the crushed ice that hindered my speed to finish. Good thing Tito Ted  of Wazzup.ph and Mars of Astig.ph did it real fast. Still, it was fun!

Second Stop at SORU IZAKAYA, serving a fusion of traditional and modern Japanese cuisine. I already got excited upon the entrance because I love ramen. I thought that they will serve it for sure. And they did!

With this challenge, only 4 members were asked to play the game of finishing the Ramen noodles as fast as we can. The thing here, it's not just the regular ramen, it's a spicy one, Tantanmen! Imagine the challenge of eating noodles for a race is quite a challenge to me. Sip the Noodle Challenge, was truly a challenge! Well, we're the 2nd finisher!

From the first challenge of finishing a cold cup of Mais Con Yelo to sipping a hot spicy ramen already tested my teeth and gum condition. This event is like an eye-opener to me, to always take care of our gum and teeth especially for the holidays.

GUMTECT FOOD TREK CHALLENGE #2

At the second food crawl the Kramers came in to share with us their story as oral healthcare advocates for Gumtect.  Doug and Chesca Kramer shared how important it is that they take care of their teeth and gums so they don’t miss out on any foodie moments when they celebrate the holidays with their friends and family.

“Despite our busy schedules, we enjoy the gatherings and reunions to relax and catch up over food,” shared Doug. “I have a really sweet tooth, and I enjoy having conversations over dessert, but for me to be able to just enjoy the food, I also ensure to make these -ber months care months for my gums and teeth so there’s no hassle of gum problems”.

Doug advocates oral care with the use of Gumtect Gum Care toothpaste, which works to promote healthy gums, protects against harmful mouth bacteria, and moisturizes and strengthens the gums.

As for Chesca, her already hectic schedule as a mom can only get busier with holiday activities with her kids on the horizon. She shared that with her sensitive teeth, she needs to take care of her gums so pangingilo doesn’t get in the way of her indulging in her favorite holiday dishes with her loved ones.

Kramers reminded us to “make the ‘Ber months Care months for our oral health, especially for our teeth and gums. With the help of Gumtect, we won’t miss out on a single foodie moment this holiday season!”

Third StopThe Round Robin Cafe, they offer desserts and pastries where you can find simply irresistible treats that can definitely satisfy your sweet tooth. This time they served us the Keylime Pie, Double Fudge Chocolate Cake, and Lemon Square.I got my new favorite here, the Keylime Pie. While my young foodie indulged with the Double Fudge Chocolate Cake.

For this third food crawl, we took the Gumtect Trivia Challenge. I missed talking photos of us because it was like a riot. Clues were hidden around the Cafe and the chaos begins. Everyone's excited to be the first one to give their answer. It was by points system. I think we got 3 correct answers with our team.

Gumtect Gumcare is the only gum care toothpaste with GUMSHIELD+ which contains Allantoin, which improves the condition of the gums, Vitamin E, which moisturizes gums and Triclean, which reduces the formation of plaque and shields against harmful mouth bacteria while Gumtect Sensitive has a Dynamic Desensitizing System that helps relieve sensitive teeth. Both Gumtect Sensitive and Gumtect Gumcare also have Active Anti-Cavity Protection that ensures fresh breath and strong teeth enamel.

Fourth Stop, at The KA-Pe DIY,a Filipino Coffee Shop where you can enjoy your own type of coffee plus the provided old Pinoy games like, Sungka, Dama and more. This time capping our food crawl with iced coffee. I'm not even a coffee fan but I have do it for the love of my team. And we got the 2nd place again. The Iced-Coffee Relay Challenge!

Thanks to Cristelle Torres of girlandboything.com for taking our photo for this last challenge. My photographer/foodie got so busy watching the Pinoys game available inside the cafe.

Yes, we Filipinos love to eat, and the holidays are definitely no exception especially with my family! With Christmas get-togethers and parties dotting our calendars, are our teeth and gums ready to take on the challenge of non-stop eating and drinking?

Today is another day to remember, discovering that oral care is really important especially to foodies like us. To enjoy the food tripping, a healthy gum and teeth is a must. Good thing, GUMTECT had it covered for us!

Safilo Brings Vision Beyond Frames to the Philippines

MANILA, Philippines –– For Safilo, a brand that has made eyewear in Italy since 1934, eyewear should fit faces perfectly and empower personalities, beyond frames. Safilo shapes its designs to be timeless, in keeping with its desire to improve customer’s vision through superior quality and comfort.

This year, Safilo is establishing their presence in the Philippines in an effort to expand their global mark in the industry through its official distributor, Ark Trends Inc., allowing Filipinos to go for the look that matches their personal styles. Safilo has brought globally-acclaimed and luxurious eyewear brands including its statement brand, Carrera, alongside Jimmy Choo, Fendi, Hugo Boss, Max Mara, and Dior, which are all leaders in the fashion industry.

“We at Ark Trends, Inc. are very proud of our new partnership with Safilo; we’re lucky to serve as a bridge between Italy and the Philippines by bringing these brands into the local market for Filipinos to enjoy,” expressed Mr. Ramesh Dargani, CEO of Ark Trends, Inc.

Promising fit, finish and comfort, each pair in the Safilo collection is made with utmost attention to the smallest of details. These are seen in such features such as laser engraving designs, the colors, and materials used to ensure that each pair is not only fashionable, but also built to last.

Highlighting the brand’s efforts to combine artisan skills and advanced technology to create and evolve its products and services, Safilo and Ark Trends, Inc. selected a group of artists from the art, fashion, and design world to sketch a number of personalities during its media launch at the Manila House Private Club. Each personality represented the different Safilo brands launched in the Philippines.

To represent Carrera, artist Miguel Chavez sketched Mara Lopez. For Jimmy Choo, Soleil Ignacio drew Bubbles Paraiso. Fendi, on the other hand, was brought to life through the tandem of Jojie Lloren as artist and Isabelle Daza as the model. The other artist-model pairs were Carlos Celdran and Atticus King for Hugo Boss; Maria Isabel Lopez and Rhian Ramos for Max Mara; and then Mich Dulce and Coleen Garcia-Crawford for Dior.

The sketches, all depicting the models wearing the various Safilo brands, were then exhibited for each one to see. The guests marveled at the unique way that each model was depicted in the different drawings, with their choice of eyewear reflecting their individual styles and influencing the artist’s rendition.

“Safilo believes that style is about being yourself. It’s a matter of authenticity, consistency, and personal style which Safilo’s line-up of eyewear brings about. By bringing these eyewear choices to the Philippines, we aim to help Filipinos show their individual style through their eyewear,” concluded Mr. Vincent Cleme, Safilo’s Associate Director Brand, APAC.

Safilo’s eyewear collection is available at LS Pascual in Rockwell, Shangri-la Mall EDSA, Robinsons Ermita, Robinsons Magnolia, and Trinoma; Optical Works in SM Lucena, SM Lipa, Festival Mall, SM DasmariƱas, SM Southmall, SM Bacoor, Shoppesville, SM North Edsa, SM Marilao, and SM Pampanga; and George Optical in Solenad Sta Rosa.

5 Reasons Why I Love Novelina Hair Color

I remember when I was young, I used to have nice brown shiny hair like a corn hair. Then in high school level, I also remember being a hair model of my own hair stylist. The last time, he bleached and colored my hair red for the first time. After the event, he colored my hair using black old hair brand. Since then, my hair became really black and thick. And grew that way. Because black does not really suit my face, I started coloring my hair all by myself since then.

I have tried different brands from the expensive to cheap ones. Never got a chance to find the perfect one that really fits my needs.

One afternoon,  I visited Novelina animation booth at Cash & Carry Mall, Makati City. They have a cute station in the corner near the department store.

Take a  look at my hair with all the gray hair showing up even without my signal. Yes, I got so excited to have my hair dye by a professional. Because the frugal me would always do D.I.Y. . I came in sad because of my problematic aging hair ...

You can choose from Novelina Zeelke Cream Hair Color with KERATIN and Novelina HERBAL Zeelke Cream Hair Color. I finally decided to have Zeelke Chestnut Brown with keratin this time. I learned that if it's with Keratin, the after result is much softer and smoother hair. The experience was awesome, no scalp irritation nor itchiness during the application. Because that's my usual concern since I noticed that my scalp is some kinda sensitive when it comes to use of any hair products.

Thanks Emcee!
The hair color application only took around 30 min. with my hair length. I walked around the mall for almost an hour and waited for the right time to rinse and dry my hair.

And yes, after the hair blower part, I now have my nice, vibrant colored hair! Amazing, the color suits my face and complexion. Gray hair was no longer visible because of my new hair color. Love it!

The Beautiful Friendly Staff

I really love my new hair color, so vibrant and shiny after the application. I left the place happy and contented. Thanks to Novelina Haircare!

5 Reasons Why I Love Novelina Hair Color

1. It is gentle to my scalp.
2. Reasonable/affordable price.
3. So easy to apply.
4. I like the Japanese formulations.
5. A trusted brand.

There are 8 Things You Need to Know About COPD

1.       COPD is a leading cause of death worldwide

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, and the World Health Organization estimates that 3 million deaths were caused by the disease in 2015, which represents 5% of all deaths globally. By 2020, it is estimated to be the third leading cause of death worldwide.1

2.       COPD is a seldom discussed, underdiagnosed disease

As compared to other leading causes of death such as heart disease, stroke and cancer, COPD is a seldom-discussed disease and many people are unaware of what COPD is. The disease is among the most common, most underdiagnosed, most debilitating, most deadly and most costly to manage.

3.       There are a shocking number of people who remain undiagnosed

While an estimated 210 million people worldwide estimated to have COPD,2 less than half have actually been diagnosed.

4.       In the Philippines, COPD remains a serious disease

COPD is one of the 10 leading causes of death in the Philippines. It has a prevalence rate of 14% among Filipino adults aged 40 and above. Only 2% of the cases are diagnosed by doctors in contrast to the overall prevalence.3

5.       COPD is not a curable disease, but it can be managed

COPD as a disease cannot be cured, but the good news is that there are available treatment options that can greatly improve the quality of life of patients, which include pharmacotherapies and nebulizes to deliver drugs. Besides these, long-term oxygen therapy and noninvasive ventilation (NIV) therapy options also help patients cope with the disease and reduce hospitalization rates.

6.       One’s risk of COPD increases with age

COPD develops slowly and becomes more apparent after 40 or 50 years of age. It is a progressive lung disease that makes it hard to breathe (or even blow a pinwheel), with symptoms that include breathlessness, chronic cough or sputum production.

7.       Non-smokers can also be at risk of COPD

While perceived to be a “smoker’s disease”, non-smokers can also develop COPD due to environmental factors. Exposure to tobacco smoke, air pollution, or noxious particles or gases from biomass fuels increases the risk of developing COPD4. Those living in Asia Pacific are also at risk due to the region’s rapid development, with 56.6 million are afflicted with moderate to severe COPD in Asia.

8.       Those with COPD should know that there are ways to help them stay active

COPD patients can, with the right treatment and therapy, continue their way of life. Russell Winwood, a renowned COPD athlete and Philips ambassador, completed his first full Ironman just six months after his diagnosis, despite the fact that his lungs function at only 22%.
