Lamoiyan Corporation celebrates holiday season with Aeta community, donates healthcare products

Lamoiyan Corporation, a leading manufacturer of personal hygiene and home care products in the country, donates Php280,000 worth of Lamoiyan products to an Aeta community in Floridablanca, Pampanga in a recently held outreach event dubbed as Making the Invisible Visible.
Making the Invisible Visible. Volunteers pose with the Aeta community to say thank you to donors and patrons.

In partnership with North Sector 1 Singles Districts of Ligaya ng Panginoon (LNP), a Catholic community in Metro Manila, at least 700 Aeta families composed of a total of 3500 individuals received basic items such as rice and milk, art and sports materials for children, and hygiene products such as Licealiz Head Lice Treatment Shampoo and Hapee Toothpaste.

With the lack of health care access in the area, Lamoiyan Corporation aims to help the community alleviate the cases of tooth-related problems and head lice infestation among kids and adults.

Ercy Santos, a 14-year old scholar of Talaturu Ipus ning Mayap a Pastol (TIMP), a program of LNP in the community, said, “Masaya kami na makita at makilala kayo. Maraming salamat sa mga regalo ninyo sa amin ngayong Pasko.” (“We are delighted to see and meet all of you. Thank you very much for your gifts to us this Christmas.”) Ercy shared she wants to become a flight attendant and dreams to go to different places. “Nag-aaral akong mabuti at ayaw kong mag-absent sa eskwela dahil gusto kong makatapos ng pag-aaral.” (“I study hard and don’t want to miss school because I want to finish my studies.”)

For the past thirty years, Lamoiyan Corporation has been promoting personal hygiene. Aside from encouraging good oral hygiene, Lamoiyan is also advocating the correct way of treating head lice infestation, which is considered one of the most common health problems in school-aged children that sometimes cause them to miss school.

Herbalife Nutrition, SOS Children’s Village Partner for Sustainable Farming Project

Executives of Herbalife Nutrition Philippines and SOS Children's Village have joined forces to build a sustainable farming project.

There are an estimated 2.3 million Filipino families who have experienced "involuntary" hunger from July to September, according to a survey released by pollster Social Weather Stations (SWS). In order to bring awareness to health issues concerning food security and as part of its recently announced Nutrition for Zero Hunger initiative, premier global nutrition company Herbalife Nutrition has partnered with the SOS Children’s Village in the Philippines to launch a sustainable integrated farming project in Lipa City, Batangas.

The project aims to raise vegetables within SOS villages nationwide, to support the health and nutrition needs of children living in these villages. The SOS Children’s Village in Lipa City was chosen for its pilot implementation. During the project’s launch in the Lipa City facility, Herbalife Nutrition Philippines employees joined the planting activity, which utilized empty Herbalife Nutrition Formula 1 Shake canisters as beds for the vegetable seedlings.

“We are glad to partner with SOS Children’s Village in a new project that contributes to the food security of the people residing in their villages, whilst also finding an environmentally friendly way to recycle our used canisters,” said Sridhar Rajagopalan, senior director and sub-region head, Herbalife Nutrition Philippines.

“Through this project, we hope to bring forward important issues such as food insecurity, malnutrition and environment sustainability, all of which need to be dealt with urgently. This is in alignment with our global Nutrition for Zero Hunger project,” Rajagopalan added.

Herbalife Nutrition’s Nutrition for Zero Hunger is a global initiative that pledges US$2 million to help end world hunger, ensure people have access to good nutrition, and address rising obesity. The initiative, with the assistance of non-profit partners, will focus on providing access to healthy foods, improving nutrition education, identifying sustainable food resources, and raising awareness of the global crisis.

SOS Children’s Village Corporate Relations head Admore Alzate shared that Herbalife Nutrition Philippines is a leading long-time supporter of their organization of ensuring the children in their villages receive proper nutrition.

“Since 2010, the Herbalife Nutrition Foundation has been supporting SOS Children’s Village. They have been the primary driver of our health and nutrition projects throughout the years,” he said.

SOS Children’s Village helps orphaned, abandoned, and neglected Filipino children. It currently has eight project locations in the Philippines—Lipa City, Bataan, Calbayog, Cebu, Davao, Manila, Iloilo, and Tacloban.

At the ribbon-cutting ceremony were (from left) Unionbank representatives VJ Vergara and Pico Sarmiento, HMR Auctions CEO Sam Powell and HMR Auto Auction Branch Manager Jaye Carreon.

Industry pioneer HMR Auto Auction celebrated its third year of operations by opening the country’s biggest purpose-built auto auction facility in Bicutan, Paranaque and holding its biggest auction yet, with over 250 vehicles available for live public bidding.

In line with its third anniversary, the company has built a facility which provides comfort for all bidders including a fully air-conditioned registration and bidding area. The new facility can hold up to 450 vehicles and can accommodate up to 300 bidders, providing a space for buyers to bid on a wide range of premium used vehicles.

People in attendance were treated to food, games and prizes, raffle draws, and vendor promos and giveaways as HMR showed appreciation to its bidders.

HMR is also making it easier for auto auction buyers to get the car of their dreams by offering affordable finance options through their partnership with UnionBank, with payments that can go as low as PHP 4,000 and a minimum down payment of 30%.  The facility also offers insurance, detailing and repair services, making it a one-stop shop for newly auctioned cars.

TSUTA launches New Tonkotsu Soba Bowls,The World's 1st Michelin Starred Ramen Restaurant

Master CHEF YUKI ONISHI first opened Tsuta Japanese Soba Noodles in Sugamo, Tokyo in January 2012. Driven by this fervent desire to redefine ramen while staying to his culinary philosophy of using premium,  natural ingredients without any artificial flavour enhancers or MSG, Chef Yuki carefully selects the ingredients that constitute his signature Dashi or soup broth, oils, & sauces and controls the elements that make up the taste and quality of the noodles. As a result, you get a ramen dish that melds the firm texture & subtle flavours of his soba noodles with a delicate, muilti-layered umami flavour burst.

In recognition of his dedication to his culinary craft that drew long lines of customers to his restaurant daily, Tsuta was granted One Michelin Star in 2015 ahead of any other ramen restaurant in the world. This distinction still fills Chef Yuki with pride as he earned his star because of his signature Shoyu Soba, which featured his signature full bodied & delicate dashi and a special blend of his custom brewed shoyu finished off with a piquant black truffle sauce for a multi-layered flavor experience.

Its first international branch was opened in Singapore by November 2015 and on December 2017 a restaurant branch was opened in the Philippines, at the heart of Bonifacio Global City.

The Tsuta Philisophy Uncompromisingly Applied in the Creation of NEW Tonkotsu Soba Bowls

Coming from a family of Ramen Chefs, Chef Yuki grew up around food.  During his foreign travels, he discovered a shocking contrast between Japanese & foreigh food culture of using dashi (soup stock) and a strong focus on umami. Inspired by this realization, he sought to develop ramen dises that stayed true to his culinary philosophy of using premium,  all natural ingredients while experimenting with different sauce pairings with the vision of having his unique ramen creations embraced around the world

In this sense, Chef Yuki’s vision has come to its full fruition with the launching of his 3 NEW Tonkotsu Soba Bowls, namely Tonkotsu Soba, Kurobishio Tonkotsu Soba and Spicy Tonkotsu Soba, where he has masterfully enhanced richness of the broth while still preserving the essence of his signature Dashi.

Tonkotsu Soba
This creamy white collagen-rich broth consists of premium black pork bone and trotter boiled at a high temperature then diligently simmered for hours to extract the richest flavors possible. Hokkaido sea kelp and shiitake mushrooms are added to the broth towards the end to enrich the taste with natural umami flavors. Just before serving, a special Shoyu seasoning sauce is added to amplify the fragrant, savoury, and full-bodied broth.

Kurobishio Tonkotsu Soba
‘Ma You’ (burnt garlic oil) – a classic tonkotsu flavor in Japan – is painstakingly made from scratch using a combination of aromatics including black pepper for its woody flavor and fragrant burnt garlic. The noodles are topped with homemade black pepper minced pork, black fungus mushrooms and fried garlic chips for crunch. A drizzle of the piquant black Ma You gives the rich tonkotsu broth a unique garlicky and intensely earthy flavor.

Spicy Tonkotsu Soba
Inspired by the bold, spicy flavours of Sichuan cuisine, Tsuta has developed its own chili oil using Sichuan peppercorns, cinnamon, star anise, and dried chili flakes to accompany its signature pork broth. Served with homemade Mala minced pork, crushed peanuts and goji berries, the subtly spicy-and-numbing flavors will meet its match pitted against the rich, full-bodied broth.

These NEW Tonkotsu Soba Bowls are priced starting at P390 and will be available beginning December 6, 2019 onwards at Tsuta located at the Upper Ground Floor C3 Bonifacio High Street 7th Avenue, BGC. Two years after it first conquered the Philippine dining scene, Tsuta continues to evolve as it caters to the discerning palates of Filipino ramen enthusiasts while maintaining their culinary spirit that earned them the distinction as the Very 1st Ramen Restaurant in the World to earn a Michelin Star.

OFW Guide: How to avoid illegal recruiters when finding job abroad

In hopes of landing great career opportunities and providing better lives for their families, aspiring Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) had to spend a hefty amount of money, do a lot of paperwork, and leave their loved ones back in the Philippines.

However, not everyone is as lucky as they thought. With more and more Filipinos willing to secure a job outside the country, many of them were deceived by unauthorized recruitment agencies – false documents, assigned with a different job from what was promised, and robbed of their hard-earned money. Just like this guy in this video:

You might think this is funny but being a victim of illegal recruitment is no joke. To make sure you or the people you know will not be a victim of illegal recruitment, WorkAbroad.ph, the Philippines' leading overseas job site, shares important reminders when looking for a job abroad.

Apply only at POEA-licensed recruitment agencies
First thing that a jobseeker has to check is if the agency they are dealing with is authorized by Philippine Overseas Employment Authority (POEA) to operate. Transact only with authorized representatives and agencies that have official job orders. The license number should be conspicuously displayed upon the entrance of the agency or you may visit poea.gov.ph to verify if an agency is indeed licensed.

Alternatively, WorkAbroad.ph also generates the data from POEA under the “Validate POEA License” tool where you can verify if a particular agency is authorized.

Transact only within the registered business address
It is advised to not engage in any recruitment activities done in malls, residential areas, and restaurants outside their registered business address. If recruitment is conducted in the province or during a job fair, aspiring OFWs should check if the agency has a Special Recruitment Authority (SRA) or Job Fair Authority issued by POEA or ask the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) of the concerned LGU.

Be mindful of fees
Victims of illegal recruitments reportedly paid an exorbitant amount of money for placement and processing fees when they should not. WorkAbroad.ph reminds employees that a placement fee is only equivalent to one month’s salary, exclusive of documentation and processing costs. Employers should also shoulder all the payments for visa, airfare, and processing costs. Most importantly, do not pay without signing a valid employee contract and official receipt.

Accept job offers using work visa
Many illegal recruitment agencies send Filipinos abroad only with a tourist visa. Keep away from possible legal conflicts in other countries by only accepting job offers that give you work visa. Beware of unclear and unspecific job orders as it can also be a sign of an unauthorized recruitment.

Report an illegal recruiter immediately
Should an agency seem to be suspicious or fail to meet the standards mentioned above, immediately report them to POEA by calling 722-11-44 or emailing info@poea.gov.ph.

Although a promising job offer abroad is pretty tempting, it is also one’s accountability to be on the lookout and be wary of unauthorized recruiters.
To explore more career opportunities overseas through POEA-accredited recruitment agencies, visit www.workabroad.ph.

World Vision ambassadors Marc Nelson, JJ Dolor visit quake-hit Cotabato

TV personality Marc Nelson and Lion King musical’s child actor JJ Dolor, both World Vision ambassadors spent a day in Makilala, Cotabato to visit quake-affected children and their families.

“Going around the town of Makilala, we’ve seen schools that were severely damaged by the earthquake. In the village where we distributed relief items, we came across temporary shelters with little pieces of tarpaulins that can only last for few months especially in this weather,” shares Nelson who is a staunch World Vision advocate on disaster risk reduction.

“I was saddened to see children like me staying in evacuation centers. Despite their situation, they were smiling at me and were playing with me throughout the time that we were there,” says Dolor.

Nelson and Dolor visited the schools where World Vision set up temporary learning spaces to complement the government’s efforts in ensuring that children’s education is not disrupted. They also participated in a child-friendly space activity aimed at helping children cope from the distress caused by the multiple earthquakes that hit their province last October.

Early recovery efforts

Nelson and Dolor’s visit highlights not just the coming together of Filipinos to support the quake-affected communities but also their ongoing and long term needs. The national disaster risk reduction and management report showed that more than 330,000 individuals were affected across Regions XI, XII, 47,000 are still in evacuation centers. Meanwhile, the education department said that over two billion pesos is needed to repair the over 500 schools in North Cotabato that were damaged.

“The good news in all these is that I’ve seen people helping each other. This is also where we all come in. There is a need for durable solutions. We need to help these people help themselves on their journey to recovery, support parents bounce back so that they can provide for their children’s needs,” says Nelson.

“I call on everyone. Please continue to help my fellow children,” appeals Dolor.

World Vision, to date, has reached more than 5000 individuals, over 3000 of whom are children. Relief items that include hygiene kit (toothbrushes, toothpaste, bath and laundry soaps, sanitary napkin, malong, nail cutter, underwear), non-food items (plastic mat, mosquito net, blanket) water purifier kit (jerry can, filter cloth, water purifier packets), emergency shelter kit (tarps, rope) were given to more than 1270 families while 10 temporary learning spaces were set up, benefiting more than 3200 school children. Psychosocial support through child-friendly spaces is also on going and has so far reached close to 1000 children across Makilala, Tulunan and Kidapawan.

World Vision also plans to support the early recovery of the affected communities through various ways possible, including cash-based interventions.

World Vision stands ready to support : Typhoon Kammuri affects 14 million children

Typhoon Kammuri made its first landfall in Prieto Diaz, Sorsogon at around 11PM on December 2.

Kammuri intensified just before it hit the landmass with a maximum sustained winds of 165km/h near its center and 230km/h gustiness.

"I wasn't able to sleep well last night not because the strong winds and rain bothered me but because I was worried about the families in evacuation centers and their deserted homes made of light wooden materials," shares Rey Montimor, World Vision Program Manager of Albay and Sorsogon.

Information from the Department of Education’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Service (DRRMS) shows that 14 million learners are affected due to class suspensions across more than 26,000 schools in 12 regions. Meanwhile, UNOCHA’s Joint Analysis of Disaster Exposure data says that there are at least nine million people in the affected areas - Camarines Sur, Albay, Quezon, Catanduanes, and Camarines Norte, 300,000 children of whom are living in places with possible widespread damage.

“As a child-focused organization, our focus is to complement the government’s efforts in ensuring that these children are safe and protected. World Vision is present in Pio Duran in Albay, Bulan in Sorsogon, Jose Panganiban in Camarines Norte and Lagonoy in Camarines Sur. Our team on the ground is set to conduct rapid assessment as soon as it is safe to do so,” says World Vision’s Executive Director Rommel V. Fuerte.

He also lauded the preparedness initiatives of all stakeholders. In the past, World Vision’s disaster risk reduction projects helped strengthen the communities’ preparedness through provision of early warning equipment like rain gauge and public address system and community and school-based disaster preparedness trainings.

“If needed, World Vision is ready to deploy its prepositioned relief items from its warehouses in Clark and Cebu which can cater to 2000 families,” says Fuerte.
