DigiCon 2026 gathers over 2,000 industry leaders to drive the future of digital collaboration

DMAP’s flagship conference returns October 15–16 with global thought leaders, five specialized tracks, and immersive experiences built around the power of collaboration

The Digital Marketing Association of the Philippines (DMAP) is bringing together more than 2,000 marketers, creatives, technologists, business leaders, and innovators as DigiCon 2026 returns for its 11th edition on October 15–16 at the Grand Ballroom of the Manila Marriott Hotel.

Anchored on the theme “Interoperability: Welcome to the Age of Collaboration,” this year’s DigiCon puts the spotlight on what happens when industries, ideas, technology, and talent work together, creating new possibilities for brands and businesses navigating an increasingly connected digital landscape.

Beyond its lineup of thought leaders, DigiCon 2026 will feature diverse session formats, from keynote presentations and expert-led panel discussions to interactive experiences and a live debate. These formats are designed to spark meaningful conversations, encourage the exchange of different perspectives, and create more opportunities for collaboration across disciplines.

Headlining this year's conference are global thought leaders Dr. Christian Busch, bestselling author of Connect the Dots and professor at the University of Southern California and the London School of Economics, and Judy John, Global Chief Creative Officer of Edelman. They will be joined by DMAP President Miko David, DigiCon 2026 Co-Chairs Raymund Sison and Shayne Madamba, and a diverse lineup of local and international industry experts.

Extending the conversation beyond the conference, DigiCon 2026 will bring together leaders of the country's major marketing, advertising, and communications organizations for Next Monday, a special panel discussion on October 16.

Featuring DMAP President Miko David, Association of Accredited Advertising Agencies of the Philippines (4As) Chairman Ronald Barreiro, Ad Standards Council (ASC) Executive Director Robbie Aligada, and Public Relations Society of the Philippines (PRSP) President Ana Pista, the discussion moderated by IdeasXMachina Hakuhodo Managing Director and DigiCon 2026 Co-Chair Shayne Madamba will explore how insights and learnings from DigiCon can be translated into meaningful action across their respective industries and professional communities.

Turning conversations into meaningful collaboration

As digital transformation continues to reshape industries, DigiCon 2026 aims to move the conversation beyond emerging trends and technologies toward the partnerships and collaborative approaches needed to navigate an increasingly interconnected business environment.

“In today's fast-moving landscape, no brand, business, or industry moves forward entirely on its own. DigiCon 2026 brings the sharpest minds in marketing, technology, and creativity into one space to exchange ideas, challenge conventions, and explore what becomes possible when we work together,” said DigiCon 2026 Co-Chair Raymund Sison. “The conversations and partnerships we start here have the potential to influence what our industry does next.”

“Interoperability isn't just a buzzword for us this year; it's a mindset,” added DigiCon 2026 Co-Chair Shayne Madamba. “We want people to cross disciplines, industries, and perspectives, and leave DigiCon with new connections and ideas they can actually bring back to their organizations.”

BAUS RUFO, CARLO OPLE, AND JAZ REYES SHARE CREATOR LESSONS ON BALANCING PASSION, PURPOSE, AND FINANCIAL SECURITY AT SUN LIFE’S FIRST-EVER CREATOR CAMP

BAUS RUFO, CARLO OPLE, AND JAZ REYES SHARE CREATOR LESSONS ON BALANCING PASSION, PURPOSE, AND FINANCIAL SECURITY AT SUN LIFE’S FIRST-EVER CREATOR CAMP

The Creator Camp speakers encouraged aspiring content creators to start before they’re ready, stay consistent, and build a future that supports their creativity.

What does it take to turn creativity into a sustainable career? For Filipino content creators Baus Rufo, Carlo Ople, and Jaz Reyes, the answer goes beyond views and followers. It starts with taking the first step, showing up consistently, and making intentional decisions that support both creative growth and financial well-being.

During Sun Life Philippines’ first-ever creator camp, entitled “One Day to Day One,” the three creators shared lessons from their own journeys, offering emerging content creators practical advice on building meaningful content, overcoming self-doubt, and creating opportunities that last.

Start Before You’re Ready

For comedian, content creator, and event producer Baus Rufo, pursuing a creative career did not happen overnight. During his talk, he reflected on a career journey that took him from advertising leadership roles to building a life centered on comedy, content creation, and performance.

Rather than waiting for the perfect opportunity, Rufo encouraged aspiring creators to take small, calculated steps toward their goals. He shared that meaningful change is often the result of constant learning, reinvention, and a willingness to “fail forward.” One of his most resonant reminders: “Done is better than good.”

Rufo also spoke candidly about the realities of freelancing and creative work, from embracing uncertainty to continuously investing in oneself and nurturing trusted relationships. These lessons, he said, helped him build a career that allows him to be creative while achieving financial freedom.

Consistency Beats Confidence

For former sports broadcaster, host, and content creator Jaz Reyes, confidence is often misunderstood as a prerequisite to creating. In reality, she shared, most creators experience the same doubts before publishing their work.

“We doubt ourselves. We overthink. We wonder if anyone will care. We still hit 'Post' anyway,” Reyes explained in her presentation about the messy process behind every piece of content.

Drawing from her own experiences as a radio DJ, host, and creator, she encouraged aspiring influencers to focus less on perfection and more on progress. Among her key lessons were simple but powerful reminders: curiosity beats perfection, action creates momentum, and consistency beats confidence.

Reyes emphasized that confidence is built through action, not waiting for the perfect moment or the perfect idea. As she put it, “Confidence comes from doing, not waiting to feel ready.”

Turning Passion into Opportunity

During a fireside chat, entrepreneur and content creator Carlo Ople joined Sun Life financial advisor and content creator Jacklord Esguerra to discuss how creators can build both influence and financial stability.

For Esguerra, content creation started with a simple mission: making financial concepts easier to understand. Despite being told that insurance content wouldn't gain traction, he chose to focus on educating rather than selling. “People don't like being sold to. They want to be informed, inspired, and educated,” Esguerra shared.

His early posts gained little attention, but he stayed consistent. Over time, audiences began discovering his content, sharing it with others, and reaching out for guidance. Today, content has become one of his most effective ways to educate and serve more Filipinos on their financial journey.

Ople echoed the value of thinking long term. What started as a gaming blog while he was working in corporate eventually grew into multiple businesses built around content.

Rather than immediately leaving his corporate career, Ople spent more than 17 years balancing work and content creation, proving that passion projects and financial security can grow side by side. “The more sources of revenue, the more sources of income, the better,” he said.

Together, their message was clear: start small, create value consistently, and trust that meaningful opportunities often begin long before anyone notices.

From "One Day" to Day One

Despite their different backgrounds and creative paths, the speakers shared a remarkably similar message: success rarely begins with certainty. It begins with action.

Whether it's publishing a first video, pursuing a long-held passion project, experimenting with a new format, or making smarter decisions for the future, creators don't need to wait until everything is perfect to begin.

Through the lessons shared by Baus Rufo, Jaz Reyes, and Carlo Ople, attendees were reminded that meaningful careers are built one step at a time. The journey from "One Day" to "Day One" starts not with confidence or perfection, but with a willingness to start anyway.

Sun Life Foundation’s Sun Pera-Aralan wins Silver at 2026 Marketing Excellence Awards

Sun Pera-Aralan, Sun Life Financial-Philippines Foundation, Inc.’s (Sun Life Foundation) flagship financial literacy program in collaboration with AHA! Behavioral Design, was recently recognized at the 2026 Marketing Excellence Awards with a Silver Award for Excellence in Financial Empowerment Marketing.

Launched in 2019, Sun Pera-Aralan aims to help lessen the debt crisis among public school teachers. The program uses insights from behavioral science, combining an innovative budgeting tool called Peso Sobre, cash flow management learning sessions, learning resources, and peer networks to help make better money management habits part of everyday practice. Through these efforts, the program aims to help teachers strengthen their financial health.

In 2025, Sun Pera-Aralan achieved its goal, reaching over 133,000 public school teachers across more than 2,300 schools in Metro Manila and CALABARZON. The program has also helped teachers build healthier financial habits, with 81% of Peso Sobre users reporting that they are able to stretch their budgets for the entire month and 90% reporting that they are able to save consistently.

Its impact can be seen in teachers such as Maria Elena of Muntinlupa City, who has been able to build her savings, and Sharon of Quezon City, who credits Sun Pera-Aralan for helping her develop financial discipline.

“All that we have accomplished in Sun Pera-Aralan ties back to a simple dream: to empower our public school teachers by making financial literacy practical, relevant, and accessible,” said Joy Castillo, President of Sun Life Foundation. “We are honored to receive this recognition and are inspired to continue our work in promoting financial wellness and security among our fellow Filipinos.”

“Sun Pera-Aralan shows that financial empowerment requires more than sharing knowledge. Change happens when programs are grounded in people’s lived realities and make healthier financial habits easier to do and continue,” said John Leinard Ramos, Principal and Chief Marketing Officer of AHA! Behavioral Design. “This is why, for us, behavior-centered solutions are so powerful: insights become practical action, and meaningful change can take hold and be sustained at scale.”

As Sun Pera-Aralan enters its final stages of implementation, its focus has shifted to preparing school communities to carry the program forward by equipping them with the tools, support systems, and ownership needed to sustain healthier financial habits after the program concludes.

As the philanthropic arm of Sun Life Philippines, the country’s first and longest-standing life insurance company, Sun Life Foundation helps uplift Filipino lives by supporting programs focused on health, education, and environmental sustainability.

Sun Life strengthens disaster response to Mindanao earthquake with CAD 100,000 donation

Canadian-based financial services company Sun Life recently donated CAD 100,000 (PHP 4.3 million) to support relief efforts following a magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Mindanao in early June.

The earthquake caused widespread damage, leaving many families displaced and with limited access to basic needs and services.

Of the total donation, CAD 50,000 aided Save the Children Philippines in providing food and essential household items to the most affected and vulnerable families, including women-headed households, Indigenous communities, and families with young children, seniors, and persons with disabilities.

Over 300 families received food packages and essential household supplies sufficient for one month, sleeping bags and cooking supplies, hygiene kits, and portable solar-powered radios and lamps to help address their immediate needs as they recover. Around 1,530 individuals, including an estimated 383 children, were supported.

Meanwhile, CAD 50,000 supported the operations of the Philippine Red Cross through a partnership with the Canadian Red Cross. This donation enabled the organization to deliver food, water, medicines, and temporary shelters to heavily impacted areas in Mindanao.

In addition to Sun Life’s donation, Sun Life Financial-Philippines Foundation, Inc. (Sun Life Foundation), the philanthropic arm of Sun Life Philippines, also mobilized aid for affected communities in Sarangani province and General Santos City.

Through Sun Life Foundation’s partnership with World Vision Philippines, Hope Kits containing essential non-food items, including sleeping mats, blankets, and mosquito nets were distributed to 400 affected families. Food packs were also distributed to 750 families through the partnership with ABS-CBN Foundation.

“Our hearts are with the families and communities affected by this devastating earthquake in Mindanao,” said JJ Moreno, Country Head and CEO of Sun Life Philippines. “Sun Life has walked alongside the Filipino people for over a century, and we stand in solidarity with them during this difficult time and remain committed to supporting their path to recovery.”

Power Shortages Put Nuclear Energy Back at the Philippines’ Energy Focus

Cong. Mark Cojuangco, Alpas Pinas, continue the push for the integration of nuclear energy to address ongoing power shortages in the country

As other countries continue to expand their nuclear energy programs, the Philippines faces recurring power shortages, with yellow and red alerts declared across various regions. According to global statistics platform Worldometer, the country generates approximately 124 TWh of electricity annually, while neighboring countries such as Vietnam and Indonesia each produce over 300 TWh—more than twice the country’s total generation.

This highlights a growing need for the Philippines to diversify its energy sources and keep up with the increasing demand for electricity. Long regarded as the least prioritized source and subject to safety concerns, nuclear energy is again becoming relevant to the country's energy discussionsas another viable option within the national grid, given the changes in the modern energy landscape.

The reconsideration signals the push to reopen the Philippine Nuclear Power Plant (PNPP) in Bataan, which has been untapped for decades since its completion. The reopening of the said facility can further strengthen the country's energy mix, while also moving forward with other nations. Otherwise, the prolonged opening process of the facility could delay the Philippines' broader energy ambitions and even put the country behind amid the global shift toward nuclear energy.

Carrying the hopes of recommissioning the PNPP at an urgent time, Pangasinan 2nd District Representative Congressman Mark O. Cojuangco, a leading nuclear energy advocate and chairman of the Special Committee on Nuclear Energy, emphasized that the firm push to openthe PNPP can help strengthen the energy mix amid the growing demand for electricity in the Philippines.

“Nuclear energy plays an essential role in addressing the country's increasing energy demands;that’s why we are determined to reopen the Philippine Nuclear Power Plant. If it keeps getting delayed, we’re missing the opportunity to establish another source of reliable energy when the country needs it most,” Cojuangco said.

Cojuangco also pointed to nuclear power plants in the United States, such as Palisades and Watts Bar, to highlight the potential of reassessing existing nuclear facilities, including the PNPP.

“Countries like the United States are demonstrating that nuclear power plants with decades-long histories can still contribute to their energy needs. The Palisades Nuclear Plant, which ceased operations in 2022, is now being prepared for a restart, while the Watts Bar Nuclear Plant overcame significant construction delays and setbacks and remains operational today. These examples highlight the need for the Philippines to explore the potential of recommissioning the PNPP. We should assess whether this existing facility can be safely and feasibly brought into operation to help address our growing energy demands, rather than leave a potential energy asset untapped,” Cojuangco said.

Alpas Pinas, a non-stock, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting nuclear energy as a clean and sustainable source of power, also underscored the urgency of PNPP's reopening. Gayle Certeza, PhD, lead convenor of Alpas Pinas, stressed that continued delays can leave the Philippines behind other countries that are now increasingly turning to nuclear power.

“The Philippines cannot afford further unnecessary delays in pursuing nuclear power, as we risk falling behind our regional neighbors and losing an opportunity to strengthen our long-term energy security,” said Certeza. “The PNPP was completed in 1985 and could have been Southeast Asia’s first nuclear power plant. Today, countries like Bangladesh, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Malaysia are moving forward with their nuclear energy plans, while the Philippines continues to weigh its options. We must take decisive steps toward developing nuclear power to ensure that our country is not left behind and can secure a reliable, sustainable energy future.”

As the Philippines seeks to meet the rising energy demand, several members of Congress have expressed support for integrating nuclear power into the country's energy plan, particularly Occidental Mindoro Representative Cong. Odie Farreila; Masbate 2nd District Representative Cong. Olga Kho; Zamboanga del Sur 1st District Representative Cong. Joseph Kim Yu; Southern Leyte 2nd District Representative Cong. Coco Yap; KAPUSO PM Partylist Representative Cong. Munir Arbison Jr.; and Valenzuela 1st District Representative Cong. Kenneth Gatchalian.

Through congressional support, the ongoing deliberation of the Philippine Nuclear Energy Act (House Bill 08567), and renewed attention to the opening of the PNPP, these efforts signal the Philippines’ potential to advance toward greater energy security and nuclear development alongside other nations.

(Sun Life Foundation) continues to champion a brighter future for children with the launch of Project SUNBRIGHT Multiplied, extending comprehensive nutrition, caregiving, early learning, and community health support to additional families in Muntinlupa City.

As the third phase of its SUNBRIGHT program, Project SUNBRIGHT Multiplied now encompasses Barangay Cupang and Barangay Poblacion alongside the original Barangay Alabang. This expansion is expected to directly support approximately 1,600 residents, including children, pregnant and lactating women, and primary caregivers. An additional 65,500 Muntinlupa residents are also expected to indirectly benefit from the strengthened capacity of the local community healthcare system to provide guidance, information, and services.

This expansion builds on the program’s proven track record since its 2023 launch in Barangay Alabang, which focused on promoting exclusive breastfeeding, child nutrition, and maternal health while building the capacity of community health, nutrition, and child development service providers. In 2025, Project SUNBRIGHT+ evolved to integrate the Responsive Caregiving and Early Learning framework, promoting safe, nurturing, and consistent childcare while providing technical assistance to strengthen local government ordinances on maternal and child health.

Implemented in collaboration with Save the Children Philippines, Project SUNBRIGHT Multiplied represents a shared commitment to advancing child welfare across Muntinlupa City.

A ceremonial project launch was held in Muntinlupa City, attended by representatives from Save the Children Philippines, Muntinlupa City Health Office, and Sun Life Foundation, led by its Executive Director Kristine Millete.

“Shaping brighter futures for children means knowing and responding to their vital needs. Through this expansion, we aim to bring safe, nurturing, and developmentally supportive care to more children and families,” said Millete. “We also seek to support more caregivers, strengthen community-based care systems, and help more children get a healthier and brighter start in life.”

“The value of investing in children’s health can last a lifetime and even across generations,” said Lourdes Pambid, Portfolio Lead for Child and Adolescent Health at Save the Children Philippines. “We are grateful to Sun Life Foundation for continuing to make that investment through SUNBRIGHT Multiplied. Together with local government and community partners, we hope to build on what we have started and see its impact continue to multiply.”
