In the Philippines’ male dominated corporate world, a woman named Rosemarie P. Rafael has been breaking stereotypes and challenging the big boys since the 1980s. In 1985, Mrs. Rafael founded Airspeed, one of the leading logistics solutions and express courier companies in the country. Airspeed is a company that reflects Ms. Rafael’s values and beliefs as a woman, a mother, and a leader. Claude will also help define the goals and programs for each of the businesses operation units and review financial projections per cost modules for new and existing business.

Teleperformance Philippines’ leadership and safety programs win in 18th Quill awards

Manila, Philippines, March 26, 2021 – Teleperformance Philippines was once again recognized for its leadership and employee programs at the recently held 18th Philippine Quill Awards by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Philippines.

The company received an Award of Excellence in Leadership Communication for its “A Message from Mike” video series, and an Award of Merit in Safety Communication for its “TP is a Safe Place to Work for all” campaign.

When Covid-19 first reached the Philippines, the government implemented a strict lockdown to help prevent the spread of the virus. Recognized as an essential service provider, Teleperformance Philippines was tasked to remain operational as the company provided essential support to government services, and industries such as healthcare, telecommunications, banking and finance, logistics, travel and hospitality.

Within the first year of his tour of duty, Mike Lytle, CEO of Teleperformance USA, Canada, and Philippines, led the organization of 47,000 people through the COVID-19 crisis. Using his personal leadership approach of empathy and mindfulness, the “Message from Mike” video series was an effective tool that offered an accessible and transparent channel of communication to reach TP employees.

Published in the company’s official Facebook page, the videos featured Lytle giving his personal messages to employees, providing updates, responding to their questions, and reminding them of essential health and safety protocols.

The video series was also part of a larger communication campaign that empowered Teleperformance employees to be well-informed advocates of responsible behaviors and decisions. At the core of the “TP is a Safe Place to Work for All” campaign was keeping every employee alert and equipped with useful information to help them navigate through a life-changing time.

A variety of communication materials were produced and disseminated and batches of signage were placed in all Teleperformance sites and facilities, including physical distancing markers, indoor traffic directional signage, elevator reminders, shuttle reminders and markers. Health and Wellness engagement activities such as yoga and mindfulness sessions were promoted through both internal and external channels. There were also forums and talks conducted by experts and professionals to help employees understand the virus and how to protect themselves.

“Through this continuing crisis, our commitment was to create a safe place to work for all, not only through strict compliance with our government’s health and safety protocols, but by empowering and enabling our people with essential knowledge and skills so that they can effectively protect themselves and their loved ones from the pandemic,” shared Lytle.

These wins are a testament to Teleperformance Philippines’ commitment to their employees’ health and safety, which was also reflected by the recently awarded extension of their certification as a Great Place to Work®.

Leading up to the certification, over 34,000 employees of Teleperformance Philippines were asked to anonymously rate the company in several areas and measured how employees perceive the organization based on the quality of workplace experience. Teleperformance Philippines became the first company in any industry in the country to win Great Place to Work® certification in 2018 and the only company in the country who has won for three years straight.

Teen Actress Arabella Del Rosario Is the New Face of Orabella

Orabella Philippines, the beauty brand known for its affordable and quality skincare line, recently welcomed teen actress Arabella del Rosario as its new brand ambassador.

“As an up and coming brand, we wanted an endorser who is passionate and promising. We see that in Arabella, and we warmly welcome her into the Orabella family,’ said Anne Acuña, Marketing Manager of Orabella Direct Selling Inc.

The young actress, who is also into singing and figure skating, is a member of Star Magic. Arabella has appeared in the ABS-CBN series, Wild Little Love.

She was introduced as Orabella’s latest endorser during a virtual press conference attended by members of the media and the blogging community.

While she appeared in some commercials in the past, according to Del Rosario, this is the first time she will be launched as brand ambassador of a reputable skin care brand such as Orabella.

“Being a new face in show business has its advantage, too. There are trustworthy brands like Orabella that believe beautiful skin is achievable with a consistent skin care routine. Ever since a kid, I know that taking care of my skin should be a priority. It is not vanity but it’s self care, because our skin is the largest organ of the body,” said Del Rosario, who is also a college freshman taking up Veterinary Medicine in De La Salle Araneta University.

During the same event, Orabella also unveiled its Defense Factor System that includes a soap, toning gel, spot solution, specialist cream, and sun care lotion.

“Our Defense Factor System is a complete solution that is formulated to bring out the beauty in you. Our company has been in the manufacturing of skin care products for a long time, however, Orabella is our homegrown brand,” Acuña said, adding that the brand celebrates women, who make up most of their distribution network.

All the products are made with quality and natural ingredients, and are intended to be “defense factors” against skin problems like blemishes (acne, blackheads, and whiteheads); sun damage (melasma, sun spots, and uneven color); and visible signs of aging (wrinkles, dryness, and roughness).

To learn more about the Orabella Defense Factor System and its other offerings, follow Orabella Direct Selling Inc. on its official Facebook account.

Orabella skin care products are sold through independent distributors and will soon be available on Lazada and Shopee.

Zelle Eliz, a half-Filipino and half-Malaysian based in Canada, is an up-and-coming artist of her generation. With hit singles like A. O. N., Kaleidoscope Adventures, and That’s Okay (available on Spotify and Youtube), Zelle definitely has a promising future in the music industry.

Zelle Eliz is an excellent and passionate singer with a big heart for fellow Filipinos. Upon hearing the news about how Typhoons Rolly and Ulysses have displaced thousands of families in the Philippines, she felt the urgency to respond in a way that would make an impact to those greatly affected.

“I’ve always believed that we are proponents of change and that we must all come together and participate in changing the world, no matter how small the contribution may be,” shared Zelle Eliz. “Abloom is my humble way of sharing the gift and the power of music, to empower the voiceless with voice, as an instrument in transforming the lives of those in need”.

Also, through this partnership with World Vision, Zelle Eliz aims to empower those in need by raising awareness, volunteering in outreach programs, and supporting the education of the most vulnerable children.

Celebrating women on top: How these female leaders made their impact

Despite gender biases in the workplace, especially for industries traditionally dominated by men, women are now rising to the top and showcasing their unique brand of leadership.

Eastern Communications, a premier telecommunications company in the country, believes in diversity and inclusion and with two women at the helm, the company’s success is a showcase of what women leaders can do in the workplace. Moreover, its key partners, Plantation Bay and Australian - New Zealand Chamber of Commerce, also led by powerful women, can also attest to the effectiveness of having women at the top.

How have these women made an impact in their respective fields? Here are some insights on their experiences.

The power of positive influence

Being in the industry for 15 years, Plantation Bay General Manager Cherry Allego says that believing in the power of influence within an organization can greatly impact people’s behaviors, attitudes, and perceptions.

                                                                       Cherry Allego

Plantation Bay General Manager

Because to her, “Greatness is not measured merely by how long you served or by your gender. It is how you influence others to do great. With this, we grow together in our field of expertise and take pride in the learnings we acquired through the years.”

Allego also continues to emphasize the importance of understanding what the organization needs and trusting the capabilities of your group in order to prosper together. Moreover, she is driven by the power of giving and getting full support through influencing others to strive for growth and excellence.

“The secret is to serve with all your heart. There is nothing to fear when you know you have the full support of the group.” she added.

Unwavering perseverance

For the executive director for Australia-New Zealand Chamber of Commerce, Maricar Gonzales understands the challenge of proving yourself as a woman worthy of a higher position while steering a company in the middle of a pandemic.

“It’s just ingrained in me that failure is not trying. I focus on what needs to be done, and more importantly, the why. Also, when things don’t work out, I see it as a step closer to success and just keep progressing” she stated.

                                                                    Maricar Gonzales

Executive Director for Australia-New Zealand Chamber of Commerce

The year 2020 might have been a rough year for most industries but Gonzales said that the last year has been the best year for the chamber since it began 40 years ago. Her ability to lead the company towards success in these taxing times can be attributed to her consistent persevering attitude.

Fostering employee wellbeing

Eastern Communications not only takes pride in their personalized customer service but as well as their prioritization over their employee’s wellbeing. For the company’s co-coordinators Atty. Aileen Regio and Hermi Hizon, although there were challenges in creating a better environment that could improve the management practices of the company, the duo were able to power through.

As they transitioned to a more refreshed company culture that promotes a strong connection between staff and executives, this matter began to disappear.

                                                                        Atty. Aileen Regio

Eastern Communications Co-Coordinator

“While we continuously distinguish ourselves as a telco with personalized customer service, we also make sure that our employees’ needs and concerns are being attended just as how we do it to our clients,” shared Atty. Regio.

Despite the pandemic bringing great challenges to the company, the combined teamwork of Atty. Regio and Hizon together with their diligent employees has helped Eastern Communications thrive during this time.

                                                                                Hermi Hizon

Eastern Communications Co-Coordinator

According to Hizon, “The pandemic is one of the biggest challenges we faced as a company and as leaders, we have to be agile and be on top of everything to be able to adapt to the new environment. We appreciate the coordination of the whole company and for trusting us in this trying time.”

As people observe more women competently serving as leaders, it will no longer seem strange that a woman is in charge. But there still is a long way to go. A great and fearless leader is defined not by their gender but by how they rise to success together with their people.

Teleperformance to offer free Covid-19 vaccinations for all employees Manila, Philippines -- Highlighting its commitment to promote the safety and welfare of its employees, Teleperformance Philippines will be offering free Covid-19 vaccinations for their more than 47,000 employees in the country nationwide. This is in line with the global initiative of Teleperformance to provide free access to vaccines for all its employees worldwide. As the nation awaits the ongoing government reviews to allow distribution of the vaccine, Teleperformance Philippines is currently collaborating with government agencies and employers in the country to quickly secure the supply of safe and effective FDA-approved vaccines for 100% of their employees. Teleperformance, a leading global group in digitally integrated business services, recently announced its plans to reimburse the cost of Covid-19 vaccinations for its more than 330,000 employees worldwide, wherever the vaccine is not being provided free of charge by the country’s healthcare system. The plan will be deployed in accordance with the decisions of the local authorities concerned and in partnership with key private healthcare partners across Teleperformance’s footprint, which spans 80 countries. Since the start of the Covid-19 crisis, Teleperformance has paid careful attention to protecting its employees, notably with a strong focus on health and hygiene standards in all its locations, millions of masks proactively secured and distributed to its staff, the assertive move to a Work-at-Home delivery model in conjunction with its clients, and enforcement of extra physical distance at its operational sites, over and above local country guidelines. A Great Place to Work® certified company, Teleperformance Philippines likewise initiated efforts throughout the pandemic to promote the safety and well-being of their employees while helping businesses adjust to the new environment. Aside from stringent health and safety protocols on site, they also implemented the work-at-home (WAH) model for thousands of employees and launched Teleperformance Cloud Campus, a model that allows home-based interaction experts to work from anywhere in the world while remaining connected virtually to their Teleperformance team through one of the Cloud Campus hubs.

Today, by offering the vaccine as a free, optional staff benefit, Teleperformance aims not only to honor its commitment to protecting the health of its people, but also to help governments address the pandemic with agile, large-scope support of vaccination programs deployed at the corporate level.

Teleperformance Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Daniel Julien remarked, “Nothing is more important in fulfilling our mission than the safety and health of all our employees. Since the beginning of this grave crisis, we have done everything in our power to ensure business continuity for our clients and protect the health and safety of our employees, our partners, and jobs in the communities where the Group is present. Now, more than ever, we are focused on the same priorities. Based on strong relationships with healthcare partners and in compliance with government decisions and procurement agendas, we are well prepared across the world to assist in securing critical Covid-19 vaccinations for our employees. The reimbursement of vaccination costs for our staff is another critical step in this commitment to our employees. We will support every employee in the Group who wants the vaccine, especially in countries where the public or private insurance system doesn’t cover the cost. We are also proud to be actively contributing to the ongoing fight against the virus by boosting vaccinations worldwide.”

Teleperformance Chief Executive Officer for US, Canada, and Philippines Mike Lytle added, “From the beginning, the safety and well-being of our employees has been our priority. While the past year has definitely been a challenging one for the company and its many employees and partners, the announcement of the vaccine brings hope for everyone across the globe and we are committed to giving free access to this for all our employees. As we wait for the distribution of the vaccine, we continue to maintain a positive outlook for the industry and the country. We enjoin everyone in the ongoing fight against Covid-19 by continuing to follow the government’s lead and practice safety measures and protocols wherever they are.”

How to Keep a Fitness Journal: Track Your Workouts for Better Results

By Samantha Clayton, OLY, ISSA-CPT

Vice President, Worldwide Sports Performance and Fitness, Herbalife Nutrition

For many people getting fit and staying fit can feel like an impossible task. But a fitness journal will help keep you on track and make sure you see progress. While this may not be the most glamorous subject, it’s important to keep a record of what you’re doing and how you feel about it, because you’ll be amazed to look back six months later and see how much you’ve improved.

Keep reading and I will share a few common fitness roadblocks and help you to overcome them through a process of self-discovery. I firmly believe that keeping a fitness journal will help you on your quest to become fitter and healthier.

Did you know that fitness plans can yo-yo just like a diet? People often tell me how they start a fitness plan with great enthusiasm only for it to tail off, or they approach fitness in fits and starts and then end up feeling frustrated. I hate to hear about people sabotaging their health and fitness levels and advocate a slow and steady approach to exercise.

Please try keeping a fitness journal for six weeks. I have high hopes that it won’t just keep you on track, it will also help you become more active and even happier.

How a Fitness Journal Helped Me as an Athlete

When I was competing as an athlete, I kept a detailed fitness journal. My coach required all athletes on our team to keep a training journal, and he would review ours with us once a month. There are some coaches who review their athlete’s fitness journal on a consistent basis like my coach, and other coaches who only request it when there is a problem, such as an injury or poor performance.

The four key reasons competitive athletes keep a fitness journal are:

·                     To help them stay accountable to their training regimen.

·                     To assist coaches and trainers with injury prevention.

·                     To monitor progress.

·                     To help the athlete and their coach reflect and research factors that are contributing to success or failure.

Why Fitness Journals Aren’t Just for Athletes

If you’re saying, “I’m not an athlete so this doesn’t apply to me,” don’t worry. I’m no longer a competitive athlete, but I still use a fitness journal to keep my fitness and nutrition goals on track.

I’ll show you how you can simplify an athletic journal to suit your needs, regardless of your current fitness level.

I believe that keeping a fitness/activity journal can help people with any of these goals:

·                     Getting fit

·                     Staying fit

·                     Losing weight

·                     Prioritizing fitness

A fitness journal can help everyone. But if you’re not yet convinced, here are my top two reasons why an activity diary will improve your approach to fitness:

1.            A fitness journal will help you be honest with yourself on a daily basis and understand why you are reaching, or not reaching, your goals. This will help you continue to push yourself and make progress, whatever your fitness level.

2.            A fitness journal will help you keep moving forward. If life or injury gets in the way of your exercise plan, then a fitness journal will help you easily retrace your steps and get back on track.

How to Start a Fitness Journal

If you’re wondering how you’re going to find the time to keep a journal when you can barely even find the time to work out—relax. You don’t need an essay.

Just jot down these five things every day:

1.            Day and date. Use whichever tool helps you stay consistent: a journaling app, a diary, a desk calendar, or even a downloadable template.

2.            Feelings. Always do this at the end of the day. A simple happy, sad, or indifferent will do (you could even use smiley faces!), or if you wish to elaborate you can. In this section, add any special notes or major events.

3.            Activity. List the time, duration, type of workout, and intensity of the activity.

4.            Body assessment. Do you feel any pain or excessive tiredness? Did a particular exercise feel uncomfortable, or do you feel amazing?

5.            Nutrition. Did you eat well? Put down a number from 1-10, with one being terrible and ten meaning you were perfectly on target.

Reviewing Your Fitness Journal: What to Look for

After keeping a journal for at least six weeks you get to play the role of detective. It can be fun to look through and evaluate patterns in your behavior. With a fitness journal, it’s simple to detect problem areas or successes at a glance.

Let me share some common fitness roadblocks and patterns that people discover when keeping a journal:

Exercise Patterns

Try to find a pattern of which days are your most successful activity days. Many people discover that Monday workouts are essential. If you look at your journal and see that weeks that start out with a Monday workout consist of more total workouts for the week, then you should try to always make time for a workout on the first day of the week.

Decline in Activity

If you notice that your activity level declines as the week progresses, then it is important for you to discover why. Is it because you are sore, tired, or just busy? Your fitness journal notes will help you to create a plan to stay consistent.

Distractions

Life can be hectic and full of surprises, but do you notice that a certain family member or friend is disrupting your workout plan? If this is the case, you need to ask them for support or invite them to join you.

Emotions

Certain types of exercise can affect your emotions. Maybe you’ll notice that each time you do a particular type of workout you end up feeling uplifted for the rest of the day. Now that you know, you can try to fit in a quick blast of your favorite exercise style to turn your day around if you are low or lacking motivation. Alternatively, if you see that on gym days your mood is not so positive, you could try skipping the gym and adding a workout outside or at home instead. Finding what works best for you is the key to prolonged success.

How Journaling Helps You Stay on Track of Your Goals

What you do determines your success, and once you begin to keep a regular and honest account of your fitness, you’ll ensure yo-yo activity levels are a thing of the past.

I believe that my role as a fitness professional is to help people take control of their fitness, and keeping a fitness journal will help you discover how to work with your personality and time commitments to be more successful.
