My NOKIA is back : Finally, Nokia 8 Android smart phone arrives in Philippines

 

 

I still have the memory of my old Nokia cellphone units. It lasted for years and actually served me well. Such a great joy to hear that my favorite brand has came up with the latest...

 

Ending weeks of anticipation, HMD Global unveils Nokia’s new flagship smartphone, the Nokia 8, today at Manila Private House Club, Taguig.

 

Nokia 8’s entry into the Philippine market reflects Nokia’s vision of growing its smartphone business in the country, the fastest-growing smartphone market in the ASEAN. The Philippine launch comes on the heel of a successful global launch that demonstrates continued support for the brand.

 

“The Philippines has always been a strong market for Nokia. Filipinos, particularly those in the provinces, have a strong affinity for Nokia phones, which have always delivered on quality, reliability and innovation. We want to continue broadening and deepening our reach here, especially in untapped provinces that need high-quality mobile communication technologies,” said Shannon Mead, HMD Global Country Manager, Philippines.

HMD Global, the new home of Nokia phones, is looking to position Nokia as the go-to smartphone for Filipinos across the different market segments. “Nokia will continue to leverage quality and innovation to serve the thriving smartphone market,” Mead shared.

The Nokia 8 brings mobile communication technology to a new level and marks three world firsts for Android smartphones.

The phone features the first-ever Dual-Sight camera, allowing users to capture or livestream moments in both first- and second-person perspective. The 13MP front and rear cameras, co-developed with ZEISS, can run simultaneously and show images in split-screen mode, inspiring everyone to “Be less Selfie, be more Bothie.”

“This marks the coming of Nokia on Android, which is clearly the dominant OS with its 94 percent share of the global market. Nokia phones are future-proof to support new Android OS versions, making it even easier for users to optimize the phone’s features and functions,” Mead said. 

The Nokia 8 smartphone pioneers the use of OZO audio to deliver immersive 360-degree spatial surround sound. This high-fidelity playback complements 4K videos and brings Hollywood technology in mobile technology.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 835-powered phone features a seamless unibody with a full-length graphite shielded copper cooling pipe for better heat dissipation, especially when running demanding applications.  It runs on Android Nougat 7.1.1 and comes in single- and dual-SIM variants.

Making smartphone technology more accessible

 

With its business principle anchored on the belief that every Filipino should have access to the best mobile communication technology, Nokia offers a wide range of smartphones to address the needs of the different market segments. This means a smartphone for every user type, need and pricing considerations.

 

The Nokia 3, optimized for everyday use, comes in a precision-machine aluminum frame to ensure a strong build unheard of in the affordable smartphone segment. It features a 5-inch Gorilla Glass HD screen and 8MP cameras. LTE 4G connectivity allows fast download and streaming, supported by 16GB of internal storage. A microSD card slot allows up to 128GB capacity.

 

The Nokia 5, which packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 octa-core processor, has 2GB RAM and 16GB storage expandable to 128GB. It features a 13MP camera with dual-tone flash and a 5.2-inch HD screen. A fingerprint sensor provides extra security and convenience.

 

Another octa-core smartphone, the Nokia 6, has a 5.5-inch full-HD in-cell hybrid display with a wide viewing angle and wide color reproduction for a fully immersive entertainment. This is complemented by dual speakers with Dolby Atmos and a smart amplifier. It has a 16MP main and an 8MP front cameras and 32GB internal storage capacity.

Nokia 8 units come in both steel and polished blue while the other Nokia phone models, Nokia 3, 5 and 6, offer a wider range of color selections.

The Nokia 8 lists at P29,990 SRP while the Nokia 6 is available for P11,990. The Nokia 3 and Nokia 5 are priced at P6,990 and P9,990, respectively.

Love, Peace, and Rock ‘n’ Roll: Hair hits the REP stage this November

 

Hair, the first ever tribal love-rock musical on Broadway, is the year-end grand musicale of Repertory Philippines’ (REP) 2017 season. Relive the rocking spirit of the 60’s in this iconic production from November 17 to December 17 at the Onstage Theater, Greenbelt 1, Makati City.  

Set in the tumultuous 1960’s, the twenty-somethings of New York City band together to form a tribe – the hippies – as a cry of protest against the Vietnam War. The story follows native Oklahoma farm boy Claude, who meets the energetic, irrepressible tribe of Central Park hippies on his way to enlist in the US Army. This free-spirited tribe, led by the charismatic Berger, inspires Claude to rebel against the war, his parents, and society, and to assert love, peace and freedom.

From its groundbreaking use of rock music in theater to its fearless depiction of the decade’s stark realities—from the bohemian underground, the sexual revolution, and the violent anti-war movement—Hair is an unforgettable and iconic production that is truly a product of its time, and continues to be a relevant piece of theater up to today.

The angst and energy of the era is captured in the show’s amazing musical score with classic hits like “Let the Sun Shine In,” “Aquarius,” and “Good Morning Starshine.” Hair even won the 1969 Grammy Award for Best Score from An Original Cast Show Album, while its 2009 Broadway revival earned the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical.

In REP’s version of this award-winning production, Markki Stroem alternates with Topper Fabregas as Claude with George Schulze as Berger, Caisa Borromeo as Sheila, and a stellar cast of young performers. Chris Millado directs the grand musicale with Ejay Yatco as musical director.

When it comes to what's new and what's hot, the foodies will never be late for that. No distance can stop us. We visited the newest branch of Ramen Nagi located at the Ayala Malls, Solenad Nuvali.  At the soft opening, we all had our tummy full!

 

 

Guess what, I know I have eaten ramen in the past, but nothing ever captured my picky tummy. Not until I met Ramen Nagi! The hot bowl of ramen can take away my sorrow... I meant hunger! Their bowl is actually good for sharing.  Though I'd rather finish it alone!

 

Take a look at this! Omotenashi sheet is the perfect way to customize your own bowl of ramen. You get to choose what you like, from the level of richness of your soup till the firmness of your noodles. You just need to use the red pen and encircle your choice. Isn't it awesome? Minoxidil Regroe supports Alopecia Awareness Month

 

Yesterday, September 21, 2017 , a noteworthy event happened at Dillinger’s 1903 Steak & Brew Greenbelt 3 in Makati City. It was an afternoon of inspiration and information to add up to our knowledge. And I love it!

Minoxidil Regroe joined the world in celebrating the annual Alopecia Awareness Month with its Blue Party. It aimed at heightening awareness as well as helping understand what alopecia is all about and how to cope with this condition.

Such an honor to be a part of the bloggers and media friends to help disseminate further information about alopecia. The Blue Party event was Minoxidil Regroe’s way of supporting people who suffer from this condition.  In addition, blue is the color of Alopecia Awareness which is celebrated every September.

 

Guests present on the affair voluntarily cut their hair as a symbolic gesture of showing support to people with alopecia.  Me and my fellow bloggers did it as well without hesitation.

 

During the event, an alopecia advocate and survivor shared her journey about her experience in having this autoimmune condition and how she surpassed her condition despite the stigma attached to it. “Alopecia should not be ignored as it affects not only one’s outer appearance but also one’s inner being. People do not understand that it is not as simple as shedding of hair to one’s scalp or body but an autoimmune condition that resulted to hair loss,” said Au De Leon.

 
What to know  about ALOPECIA

 

Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disease, causing the body’s immune system to attack the hair follicles, resulting in partial or complete hair loss on the scalp and other parts of the body. The most common types of alopecia areata are alopecia areata patchy or coin-like patches on the scalp or other areas of the body, alopecia totalis or total hair loss on the scalp, and alopecia universalis or complete loss of hair on the scalp, face and body.

 

In the website of National Alopecia Areata Foundation, (www.naaf.org), the foundation presented that 147 million people worldwide are affected by alopecia areata with a lifetime risk of 2.1 percent.

We all love the thoughts of heaven and how it’s like to be there… Well, heaven on earth experiences really excites me too.  Discovering new places, things, food and everything new gives me all the reason to celebrate and enjoy life.

Recently, my chubby tummy bumped into an amazing venue to satisfy my Korean food cravings. Finding out that there’s a cozy place to grill without smelling after your meal, is a relief to me. Since my family and I love trying Korean restaurants, we usually end up going out still smelling like barbeque after we dine in. Who would like to smell like bbq specially if you are going to another place? I highly recommend Gen!

 

The first night of my visit to Gen was an awesome experience. Located by the bay, the scenery of sunset just captured my heart. Dining with a cool ambiance is my second requirement. If you like dining in to a modern ambiance of the black-lit resto, it’s truly a unique experience!

Now, let’s go to the main event! Since I was in the mood that night, I grabbed the thongs and faced the grill, I did the honor of grilling for our table. It’s actually my pleasure to cook for the people I love. I’m so excited to be back there with The Ang Foodie Family!

Discover the place where there’s always a reason to celebrate.  As Applebee’s Grill and Bar launches its NEW Menu, my taste buds already got so excited to the next wave of flavorful gastronomic experience today!  New appetizers, salads, pasta, chicken, seafood, burgers, handhelds, and desserts to explore for our food adventure!

Over 20 new dishes from the menu!  Isn’t it so interesting to try them all?  Of course, I still have to watch my diet.  But I did not let my day end without tasting at least a little bit of almost everything from the New Menu.

Starting from the appetizer, the Fried Sweet & Spicy Pickles caught my attention. Imagine pickles being fried like chips?  Yes, it’s a must-try!  Something really new to The Ang Foodie Family!  But mind you, Mr. Ang almost finished it! And if you are a beer drinker, this baby is best paired with Engkanto beer.

Applebee's all-new appetizers give an auspicious start.  It can get things going in two ways----Team Beer and Team Cocktails and Wine. Team Bear can choose between Engkanto's Ginger Ale and Lager to pair up with Fried Sweet and Spicy Pickles, Bacon Jalapeno Potato Croquettes and Calamari.  Team Cocktails and Wine would love to pair their glass with a Southern Beef Brisket Quesadillas. 

My favorite appetizer is the Southern Beef Brisket Quesadilla.  It’s a shredded slow-cooked seasoned beef brisket tossed in a chipotle lime salsa and jalapeno dressing.  Also topped with assorted cheddar cheese in a warm flour tortilla wrap, drooling now?

For the weight-watchers like me, a healthy choice of this brand new Grilled Watermelon and Spicy Shrimp Salad can really make your day.  The combinations of fresh greens, cucumbers, feta cheese, toasted almonds, spicy grilled shrimp, and grilled watermelon cubes in a creamy mint yoghurt dressing is a guilt-free indulgence.  Heavenly! I could finish a bowl or two of this!

I am a fan of seafood. My daughter got it from me.  She picked the Teriyaki Balsamic Glazed Salmon. It’s an ocean fresh Norwegian Pink Salmon basted with a Teriyaki Balsamic glaze.  Served with Mexi-rice and green bean crispers on the side, really toothsome! My 9 y.o. foodie described the salmon so fresh and milky taste.  Kids would enjoy it!

 

The NEW Spinach Artichoke & Grilled Chicken Cavatappi is a creamy pasta that you will definitely adore. Love the thick spiral noodles.  Good for carbo loading! 

Here’s the most exciting part of our meal!  Trying the NEW Triple Meat All-In Burger packs a lot of heat with USDA beef burger patty, double smoked bacon, shredded beef brisket, cheddar cheese, and honey BBQ sauce in a Brioche bun. So filling to finish one serving, goes with bed of French fries. My young foodie loved it too! And of course, the carnivore Mr. Ang enjoyed it too!

One of the best from the All New Local Favorites, NEW Applebee’s Pork Liempo Adobo, so FILIPINO! It’s a succulent pork belly steaks drizzled in a tasty soy-vinegar sauce topped with crispy fried garlic and onions on the sides.  Juicy meat that can stretch your appetite.

The finale, DESSERT! Cap your meal with the NEW Smores Creme Brulee (sugar-glazed chocolate creme brulee topped with banoffee crumble and toasted marshmallows) or the NEW Banoffee Cheesecake (toffee cheesecake drizzled with Dulce de Leche and Hot Fudge sauce, topped with banana chips).
