WOMEN EMPOWERMENT S3: Designing a Life you Love After Surviving from Crises

Women Empowerment #WE Series is a string of talks focusing on lifestyle, career and finance that puts the spotlight on women of varied backgrounds. This is in collaboration of Ms. Rowena Suarez of Just Ask Ro, a professional Financial Guru and Ms. Ma Joy Felizardo, an event organizer, lifestyle blogger and more. They are truly incredible women of today.

The WE 3rd series focuses on Designing a Life you Love After Surviving from Crises. It was held last Saturday, March 24 at the newest food hub along Bagtikan St., Makati, The Arkipelago.

The afternoon was filled with uplifting messages imparted to us by Consul Anette Ablan (representing Belarus to the Philippines). The daughter of former Ilocos Norte Rep. Roquito Ablan Jr. She taught at DFA for 35 years teaching Russian language. Also a host at Ikons in Circles for 5 years.

Consul Anette Ablan shared her experiences, coming from a prominent family with political background does not guarantee a promising childhood. From being young, stupid reckless, failed marriage... now a women with power and influence. A strong independent woman, single mother of four children and a successful individual. Always mentioning the divine providence that comes her way despite all the challenges that she had gone through during her talk.

She left us with thoughts... Not all rich or influential people are happy, contented, and living their purpose, that is a fact and reality of life.  Try your best to only live within your limits.  To be able to move on from hurtful past, learn how to forgive. Pray for those who have hurt you. A PAINFUL process but tremendous life-changing, life-fulfillment follows after.

Ro is the wife of Vice Mayor Unisan Quezon. An active women not only on advocacy on financial literacy but also on sports and lifestyle. She shared her knowledge about money matters, savings and also left us with her thoughts...

Stop being envious of others, keeping up with the Joneses will only hurt your finances. It can also save you from debts. Always have a GOAL in mind. Live simply and learn how to save. Put your money in different jars. Always be in the Know.  Find other income streams. These are wise advice from a financial expert. We should take note of this and give it a try. If you have any questions of money and finances, #JustAskRo.

I attended the event with my only daughter, who I am already training at her young age, to be surrounded with like-minded people. Also praying that she will grow up as an empowered individual, who can make a difference and make a stand as a strong woman of faith.

#WomenEmpowerment aims to inspire, educate, empower and build strong and brave women. Women Empowerment is already growing in numbers of supporters. Thanks to our sponsors who made this event possible. #JustAskRo, Arkipelago and Spring Valley Drinks Phils.

This event is the best way to cap the Women's Month celebration. Cheers!

Let's keep on empowering each other! You may be our next guest or speaker to our future talks. Let's continue build our strength together as empowered women in any field we are at.

Innovative breast cancer treatments at Asian Breast Center in Centuria Medical Makati

The Philippines has the highest breast cancer incident rate in Asia and the disease is still among the leading cause of cancer among women. Medical experts stress that breast cancer is a preventable and curable disease and it worth nothing that the number of cancer survivors is steadily increasing.

This can be attributed to advanced treatments that are becoming accessible to many people across the globe, as well as better awareness about the disease, and the practice of regular screening that helps detect cancer at an earlier and therefore, more curable stage.

Innovative Breast Cancer Treatments

Asian Breast Center at Centuria Medical Makati offers not only innovative breast cancer therapies but also consultation and various to prevent breast cancer.
''Early detection saves life. I found out that the treatment for breast cancer here in the Philippines, mostly taking out the whole breast. In the United States, it is the opposite. About 90% of the treatment entails preserving the breast through breast conserving therapy,'' said Dr. San Agustin, President and CEO of Asia Breast Center.

In breast conserving therapy, specialist radiates the breast where the cancer is. The patient will receive a total of 33 treatments that will be given once for five days. This normally takes six and a half weeks. A booster may be given to the patient after the treatment.

''A lot of surgeons are recommending thorough mastectomy. This may have been influenced by the false notion that the more you take out (the breast), the more likely its cured. That's not the truth. In a cellular biology, there are a lot of factors to consider why a cancer cell grows back and which area it will likely grow in or why it does not grow at all. There have been several cases showing that taking out the entire breast does not guarantee that the cancer will not grow back in or near the area,'' Dr. San Agustin shares.

Asian Breast Center will also offer the latest breast cancer therapy for early stages. One of these is the Intraoperative Radiation Therapy, an advanced breast treatment for stage 0 to 1. Unlike other radiation therapies that radiates the whole breast, IORT targets mainly the specific area where the cancer is.
''What we do is, we put the patient to sleep. We put this device to the cavity. We radiate it. And then wait for 30 minutes. After taking out the device, we can send the patient home and she can perform her daily tasks. It's easy and fast as that. And it's very effective and cost-efficient,'' he said.

First in the Philippines
'' One out of eight women in the US develop breast cancer while here in the Philippines, It's one out of four. in the US, only 10% die from breast cancer while 50% dies of the disease in our country. Hundred percent of them gets treated in the US while 70% dies without treatment here,'' said Dr. San Agustin.

While advanced treatments are available in many countries, there are still a lot of cancer patients in the Philippines who don't have an access to it. When you couple this with the misconceptions toward the disease, many opt to just have their entire breasts removed feeling that they have no other option at all. This has prompted dr. San Agustin to set up Asian Breast Center at Centuria Medical Makati, where facilities are at par with the best in the world.

The soon-to-open Asian Breast Center will be the country's first freestanding ambulatory cancer care unit for profit-for-charity, dedicated to the comprehensive treatment and management of breast diseases.

''The doctors at tis center are established names who work for top hospitals in the United States, and like me, they believe in giving more options to people suffering from this illness,'' he adds.

Dr. Norman San Agustin, himself is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and founder and presidents of Morristown Surgical Associates, one of the top medical institutions in the United States.

''If I put up a clinic here and it's for charity, how many patients will I get to see in a day, in a month, in a year? Surely, a lot. What we develop here in Asian Breast Cancer is a different form of Profit-for- Charity. All the money that we will make--the profit--will go to a foundation that supports awareness and advance breast cancer treatments,'' he shares.

''Our vision is to help everybody, not just the poor. We provide the same care and treatment to everyone--no matter who they are or what country the came from. We have very good physicians in the Philippines but we lack the place that provides cutting-edge technology and facilities. And that's what we provide here.
Breast Cancer in the Philippines

There are several types of breast cancer. Among the common types are ductal carcinoma in situ. the most common type of noninvasive breast cancer, where cancer has not spread yet and usually has a very high cure rate; the invasive lobular carcinoma, which starts in the glands of the breast that produce milk and the inflammatory breast cancer, which makes the skin of the breast appear red and feel warm (giving it the appearance of an infection).

It is not exactly known how one gets breast cancer. However, there are risk factors that should be considered. These Include: age (the chances of breast cancer increase as you get older); family history; personal history (if you have been diagnosed with breast cancer before or certain benign breast conditions); menstruation(women who started their menstrual cycle at a younger age (before 12 yrs. old) or went through menopause after 55 yrs. old; having dense breast tissue, as documented in a mammogram; having no child or having the first child after 30 yrs. old being overweight; using oral contraceptives for the past 10 years; and using combined hormone therapy after menopause.

Asian Breast Center will soon open its door at the Centuria Medical Makati, a one-step, outpatient medical-IT facility at Century City in Makati. Centuria will house more than 700 clinics. I t provides an efficient clinics environment for doctors and an equally hassles-free patient-centered services to all its guests and patients.

SUPER BOWL OF CHINA : ANG UNLI YANG CHOW

The ANG Foodie Family got so intrigued with the new UNLI YANG CHOW promo of Super Bowl of China. Yesterday, we decided to visit the nearest branch from our place. We found the Super Bowl of China at the ground floor of Robinsons Place Manila.

The branch here in Malate has a capacity of more than 50 seats to accommodate hungry individual of group of people. They have spacious table settings to make your dining experience pleasant. It can also be a good place for small family gatherings or events.

We all came in hungry and ready to fight! As we're all excited to enjoy the UNLI YANG CHOW. Super Bowl of China offers sumptuous dishes that can partner with your Yang Chow.

I started checking their menu and happily found my favorites...classic dishes...comfort food...Chinese food! From dimsum to meat dishes.

The BRAISED TOFU WITH MUSHROOM, has bean curd sautéed with mixed vegetables and mushrooms in a dark soy and oyster sauce combination. My mom who is a tofu lover got this one as her personal favorite.

DIMSUM COMBINATION PLATTER, consists of pork siomai, hakao, deep-fried wanton, vegetarian spring roll and pork asado siopao served with sweet and sour sauce. No need to choose from the list of dimsum since you can almost have everything from this platter.  Our young foodie Abi, loved the super yummy siopao.

SEAFOOD CHOPSUEY, assorted fresh vegetables and mixed mushrooms sautéed with fish fillet and shrimp. Perfect combination! Seafood and vegetables all together in one plate. Yes, they are really generous with my most favorite ingredient...shrimps!

BRAISED BEEF WITH KAILAN, tender beef chunks and fresh kalian leaves sautéed in oyster sauce. Yes, real tender beef! Another personal favorite of my mom who is a beef lover. Actually, the whole family's favorite.

HONG KONG STYLE SPICY SHRIMP, it's sautéed with garlic, chili fingers, black beans and Chinese spices. This is my first love because shrimp is love. It has a little spiciness that is just tolerable for non spicy food fan.

The highlights of our family lunch is of course, the UNLI Yang Chow. Honestly, the Yang Chow itself can stand alone. It's full of rich ingredients! Lots of shrimps in it!

My 69 year old mom was able to indulge with two cups of Yang Chow rice. While Mr. Ang, the food warrior in the family was able to finish more than 5 cups. Our young foodie, my sister and I finished a cup of Yang Chow. But I indulged with the number of viands on our table. That is why, you better bring your family and friends who eat rice like a farmer. Who can make sulit (worth it) for the UNLI Yang Chow.

I saw some students from the schools around Robinsons Place, dining in and enjoying the unlimited servings of Yang Chow rice. Was so tempted to take photos of them, they made towers of bowls! They obviously felt the worth of their P70 for their lunch. The UNLI Yang Chow is something that should be offered from time to time.

And yes, here's AnotherDAEtoremember for The ANG Foodie Family.

Not an ordinary movie : PAUL, Apostles of CHRIST

Living by faith is a journey not everyone is willing to take. The life of Paul and his writings helped me understand and know God more. Paul's faith in Christ despite all the hardships made him leave a legacy to many believers. We can read his books in the BIBLE.
What is faith by the way? From the back of my Bible, the word faith means the belief in God; knowing that God is real even though one can't see him. In Hebrews 11:1 faith was define " Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen...
Purveyed in the perspective of the Apostle Luke, the film depicts Paul in the midst of a brutal Roman campaign against religion, persecuting all those who share the faith and preach the word of the Lord through the most gruesome methods ever devised.
Paul, is held prisoner and sentenced to death by Roman Emperor Nero. Luke, risks his life to visit him and there decides to write another text containing the beginnings of “The Way” and the start of what will later be known as the Church.

Chained and confined in the infamous Mamertine Prison, under the command of the hateful Prefect Mauritius Gallas, Paul introspects, realizing the tribulations he underwent: countless floggings, starvation, stoning, hunger and thirst. Now, as he waits for certain death alone in the dark, shadows of his past misdeeds haunt him and he wonders if he will be able to finish the race well.

The two Apostles struggle against the weakness of humanity and one of Christianity’s grueling oppressions in order to spread the Gospel of Jesus and keep the faith as a beacon of hope to all the believers across the land.

“When I think of God's grace and mercy and who's the one embodiment of that, it's always Paul to me. Somebody who goes from basically the greatest persecutor of early Christians into the greatest evangelizer in all of church history,” Writer and Director Andrew Hyatt shared.

Starring Jim Caviezel as Luke, French actor Olivier Martinez as Mauritius Gallas and Game of Thrones Alumnus James Faulkner in the titular role, “Paul, Apostle of Christ” will be exclusively screened at SM Cinema theatres nationwide starting March 23.

This movie is not as ordinary as what we usually watch on big screens. PAUL, can give a feel of how faith works from their time.  I know we can also relate with faith issues in our lives even until now.

Book your tickets now through the website, www.smcinema.com or skip the line by downloading the SM Cinema app now through the App Store and Google Play. Stay tuned to SM Cinema on Facebook and @SM_Cinema on Instagram for more details.

Kumusta World! We’re Building a Filipino Super-App.

An introduction to Kumu: the messenger, the mission, the movement.
We’re excited to launch the Public Beta version of Kumu, a messenger app and media platform built by and for the Filipino community! You can download it on the App Store, Google Play Store.
In many ways, Kumu is the product of a long process — a labor of love and countless hours of work contributed by an extended team of over 60 leaders from the Philippines, the diaspora, and the global tech community.
But we’re only beginning. We started discussing this idea six months ago; in comparison, Facebook has been around for fourteen years, Viber and Instagram for eight. There remains a massive but exciting gap between where we are and where we want to be. We’re proud of what our team has built, and we invite you to join and help us build this from the ground up! This is our Digital Bayanihan.

What is this all about? Why do we need another messenger app?

What exactly is Kumu?

1. A localized communication app for the Filipino people

Localized messenger apps are taking over Asia.  Part of it means designing for the realities and constraints of digital communication in Philippines. Our video and voice call technology is powered by a unique real-time communications protocol that is optimized for low connectivity settings
We’ve worked hard to infuse Kumu with a voice and spirit that’s uniquely Filipino. Our stickers are one example of this — saturated not only with Filipino language and slang, but also an undercurrent of Filipino history and mythology, all rendered in vivid color by some of the best artistic talent in the Philippines. We will take the same approach to our brand, our marketing, and everything that we do.

Stickers by Katsy Garcia, Team Manila, Toto Madayag, Neil Fernando, and Geraldine Sy.
2. A media network for the next generation of Filipino creativity
Filipinos are some of the most creative people in the world. But historically, that creativity hasn’t been given the right platform to flourish. People leave the country to be Broadway actors and musicians. The local media landscape remains monopolized and insular. Tapping into our innate creativity isn’t just a matter of expression and inspiration — it’s also the key to surviving the next decade of disruption.

We’re building Kumu’s Explore tab as a platform for the digital creative economy in the Philippines.
Beginning with our livestream network, Kumu Explore will be the home to artists, journalists, students, vloggers, historians, musicians, comedians, and all kinds of creative talent from across the global Filipino community. Our curation team will ensure a diversity of voices that represent the best of Filipino talent, and our livestreaming technology will enable a deeper level of interaction and engagement than anywhere else.

3. A digital economy of services that make life easier in the Philippines

The Filipino people are naturally viral. Makati was once named the selfie capital of the world, and the Philippines was ranked #1 in terms of average time spent on social media.
But for the most part, our digital savvy remains very separate from our day-to-day economic needs. Filipinos in the Philippines still have to line up each payday to get their money from the bank; Filipinos abroad still use remittance services with hidden fees and unreasonable exchange rates. The cash economy, which remains king, is a very expensive way of doing business.

Later this year, we’ll be releasing some solutions to make life a little easier. We want remittances, shopping, payroll, food delivery, and Balikbayan Boxes to be as fast and easy as posting a selfie. We want to make everything from day-to-day necessities to other products a more seamless part of the digital experience. For many of these services, we’ll be working with some of the best Filipino innovators to integrate their existing solutions into our platform.

Our goal is to unleash the economic power of one of the fastest-growing economies in the world.

4. A movement to take back our internet and unlock the power of the Filipino community

When the internet came about, it promised to be a great equalizer, a way for us to connect and be better together than the sum of our parts. But fast forward several decades and our internet infrastructure, too, has been dominated and throttled by a few multinational corporations. Our social media channels are rigged against us, selling the public conversation to the highest bidder.

At Kumu, our vision is to harness the full promise of the internet and digital technology to unlock the power of the Filipino people. We think that the internet can build stronger communities rather than divide them, make life easier instead of distracting us from what matters. Digital media can inspire us and broaden our imaginations. Kumu hopes to be, more than any single thing, a vehicle to make these possibilities real. We want to be a platform for the future of the Filipino community, a Filipino renaissance that is rising and gaining momentum.

We hope you join us in getting there! We need all the Filipino spirit spirit and energy for the journey ahead. Let’s start our Digital Bayanihan with Kumu.

Kumu is now available on the Google Play and App Store.

The relaunch of new products for babies and kids at Bambini Baby Cologne Family Bootcamp

Celebrity mom Iya Villania-Arellano admits she has forgotten how relatively easy her daily routines were before Baby Primo arrived. “I’m not sure how I balance my career with being a mom and a wife; it just happens!” she beams.

“When you know what's important and what you need to get done, then you make it happen. It's important that I list things down so I don't forget. I really need to put things down in my calendar even if its date night with Drew or a playdate for Primo.”
It’s no wonder why Iya was the natural choice of Cosmetique Asia, the makers of Bambini Baby Cologne, to be its newest endorser, together with Primo. Bambini Baby Cologne underwent a brand refresh with a new look guaranteed to appeal to the young ones.
A ‘Sunny Playtime’ with Iya and Primo Arellano
We wanted to focus on the playful bond that kids share with their parents. With Bambini, we make these precious random moments more enjoyable. It is evident even in our packaging. We made sure they are attractive enough for children so in choosing what variant to buy, parents and kids get to have fun and interact. All these while maintaining high quality standard and other requirements most parents are looking for — hypoallergenic and dermatologist tested. In the near future, we want to launch a complete range of child specific products with a fun loving vibe,” says Cosmetique Asia’s Vice President for Sales and Corporate Development, Tim Chuongco.

Inspired by mom-and-child bonding activities and fun elements of nature, the new and improved Bambini Baby Cologne features five new scents: the floral and sweet “Morning Tickles,” the calming “Starry Lullaby,” the clean and breezy “Ocean Kisses,” the cottony fresh “Cotton Cuddles,” and — Iya and Primo’s favorite — the citrusy and fun “Sunny Playtime.”

“We love Sunny Playtime. It's just the scent I prefer on Primo. It has a nice, mild, yummy scent that makes Primo nakakagigil even more! I also love how playful and inviting the packaging is. We actually have to hide the bottles from Primo because he likes to point to the mom and baby animals on the sticker front, then open the bottle to put some cologne on. Baka maligo na sa cologne eh,” Iya laughs.

For Iya, as with all working moms, the greatest challenge is to be there for her child “every moment he does something new or silly” and wanting to be there to witness it. And adding to the challenge and excitement is her announcement of having another baby boy. “Primo doesn't really understand that yet so we're enjoying him as he is for now. When he starts to get curious with my growing belly, then we'll start explaining,” she shares.

For a perfect mom-and-baby playtime, Iya and Primo recently joined toddlers and their parents for the official unveiling of the new Bambini Baby Cologne at Glorietta 3 Activity Center. Dubbed the Bambini Baby Cologne Family Bootcamp, the wonderful kiddie event transformed the venue into a wonderland of fun games and activities for kids, including a ball pit, a bouncy castle, giant puzzle blocks and a larger-than-life coloring book, where guests and their children could bond and enjoy the little surprises the activities bring out.

As Bambini relaunches with a new product for babies and kids, it hopes to be a part of every parent and child’s small moments and big adventures. Available in three sizes — 25ml, 50ml and 125ml — and packaged in an easy-to-go grip curvy bottle, the Bambini Baby Cologne lets parents and children enjoy life’s little surprises anytime, anywhere.
