The Advantage of a Human Resource Expert in Recruitment’s Digitized Ecosystem

In recent years, the human resource function in organizations has undergone many changes, from the recruitment processes to employee retention efforts and performance management systems.
Most management teams have started to use technology for human resource acquisition and retention with chatbots, AI and machine learning making it easier for both the job applicant and employer to find the right match as cited by Jake Go, CEO and co-founder of pioneering recruitment firm Springboard Philippines.
Bucking the Trend in Digitization
Recruitment’s screening process alone has significantly improved through technological advances such as automated systems that are starting to imitate Google’s way of tailor fitting ads using a person’s user data to learn that person’s interests and needs. Most also use systems that narrow job candidates by using specific keyword searches that allow HR managers to scan resumes in a matter of seconds. Some of these tools include Entelo and TalentBin, which both use artificial intelligence to search for and pick the best fit among the candidates online. Job portals like Jobstreet, Kalibrr, and Bestjobs now provide job seekers and companies a more convenient way of interacting through digital platforms.
The advent of social media has also provided some companies a new way of screening their applicants and vice versa. According to a survey by CareerBuilder in 2017, 70% of employers screen their candidates through social media before anything else. As of 2017, LinkedIn already has 500 million users while Facebook has 2.2 billion users. With the Philippines being the world’s “social media capital of the world,” spending an average of 4 hours online according to a survey by Hootsuite this year, a company’s online presence and branding is important to attract the right applicants.
Yet even though technology has been beneficial to the recruitment process, Jake Go says, “These online job platforms are useful in the recruitment process; Springboard adds value to them by incorporating the human component.” He and his business partner Tristan Ong, COO of Springboard Philippines believe that human connection should not be lost despite the digitization of recruitment but instead evolve with it.  They believe that this is what makes Springboard successful as they provide value to the people and society.

The Springboard Difference
In their recruitment process, Springboard Philippines have Human Resource Executives who conduct psychometric exams to determine level of commitment, intelligence, and cognitive ability, along with their long term suitability for the job role. This recruitment process leads to a 30-50% employment hit rate, a number of loyal clients since their first year, and a fast applicant replacement turnaround rate.

As a company, their mission is to bridge the gap between the employer and job seeker, to be the Launchpad for careers and growth in companies. Staying true to their value for human connection, they organized Wake Up Manila, a job convention with the purpose of strategically matching the right job candidates and companies.

Extending the Springboard Mission: Wake Up Manila
Happening this July 6-7 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City, Wake Up Manila will allow companies to “find the one” through engaging and fun interactions with job seekers to bring back that human connection amidst this digital world we live in.
Companies who decide to join Wake Up Manila are encouraged to be more engaging with the applicants and in turn, Springboard promises to be more hands-on in terms of delivering the right people to Wake Up Manila exhibitors.
“What we promise you are quality candidates that are going to come in. We guarantee you that around 70% of the candidates who will come in are going to be interested in getting a job,” Go shared.
This comes from their insight that most candidates, especially in mall job fairs, simply come in to try their luck – they give out their resumes and leave.
"Springboard will train and coach the candidates to provide the exhibitors quality attendees in the event," explained Jake.  The company also wants exhibitors to see Wake Up Manila as an opportunity to market their brand and company, allowing them to get even better returns in terms of their hiring needs.
“We promise that you will be able to build your dream team, to find the right people through us,” Go said.
For companies in search of new employees, Springboard is inviting them to join this exciting job fair that gives them the chance to get closer to the people that will help their company grow even further.

Herbalife Nutrition Healthy Breakfast Survey Reveals Consumers in the Philippines Would Be Motivated To Eat Breakfast Daily

PHILIPPINES, April 18, 2018 – Herbalife Nutrition today released findings from its Asia Pacific Healthy Breakfast Survey, conducted in February this year with more than 5,500 respondents in 11 markets – including 500 from the Philippines.
Aimed at uncovering insights into the attitudes and habits of eating breakfast among consumers in the region, the survey revealed that the majority of respondents understand the importance of a healthy breakfast in promoting their well-being and in managing their weight, however, many of them have encountered obstacles to eating it daily, and would be encouraged to eat it more regularly if it was more convenient and accessible.

Benefits of consuming breakfast
Based on the Herbalife Nutrition Asia Pacific Healthy Breakfast Survey, the majority (69 percent) of consumers in the Philippines consider breakfast extremely/very important, with 86 percent choosing it as the most important meal of the day. In comparison, only 11 percent opted for lunch and 2 percent for dinner.  When asked about the benefits of consuming a healthy breakfast, 99 percent said that eating breakfast “gives them energy in the morning” while 96 percent felt that “it contributes to their personal well-being”.
Looking at the breakfast habits of consumers in the Philippines, the survey found that 84 percent do indeed make it a priority to eat their first and most important meal of the day at home, with 67 percent doing so within one to two hours of waking. The rest would just grab their breakfast either at work (10 percent) or on the way to work (4 percent). Only 2 percent of the respondents do not eat breakfast.

What are the consumers in the Philippines eating for breakfast?
The survey also showed that although 45 percent of respondents consider protein as the predominant nutrient needed in their breakfast, carbohydrates in fact made up most of the actual breakfast nutrients in the consumption pattern of the respondents. Carbohydrates such as bread or toast and hot beverages top the list of breakfast foods regularly consumed.

Obstacles to a daily breakfast
While the survey indicated that a good majority are eating breakfast, it also found that many had encountered obstacles to eating it daily. The top three barriers are “lack of time” (44 percent), “don’t feel hungry in the morning” (30 percent) and “trying to maintain my weight” (18 percent).

To overcome these obstacles, 54 percent of the respondents said having “If my breakfast contributes to my health and well-being” and “If breakfast helps give me more energy” would help them eat breakfast daily, other motivation factors include making breakfast “readily accessible” (53 percent) or having something that is “more convenient and easy” (48 percent).

“It is heartening to see that most Asia Pacific consumers are aware of the importance of eating breakfast. At Herbalife Nutrition we believe that there are many benefits of  eating a healthy breakfast daily. A healthy breakfast with balanced nutrition not only provides the much-needed nutrients for the day, but also has wide-ranging benefits in the long run, including supporting healthy metabolism, better brain health and improved weight management,” said Mr. Rosalio Valenzuela, Country Manager of Herbalife Nutrition Philippines.

However, the survey also revealed that many are still not consuming breakfast daily. One can easily overcome the obstacles by waking up 15 minutes earlier to prepare something fast such as a protein shake. Eating a healthy breakfast regularly can really set the stage for healthier eating all day long, and promote and maintain a lifetime of wellness,” added Mr. Valenzuela.

According to the Herbalife Nutrition Philosophy, every meal consumed should have a calorie intake breakdown of 40 percent carbohydrates, 30 percent protein and 30 percent fats. Carbohydrates should include, at the very least, some fruits or vegetables.

Herbalife Nutrition Asia Pacific Wellness Tour

To educate Asia Pacific consumers on how to adopt positive nutrition habits for a healthier and happier life, Herbalife Nutrition will be conducting its ninth Asia Pacific Wellness Tour from April 13 to April 29. The Herbalife Nutrition Asia Pacific Wellness Tour features a series of medical symposia and nutrition talks held in cities across Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, India, Korea, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand.
During the Tour, Herbalife Nutrition fitness experts and members of the Herbalife Nutrition Advisory Board (NAB) will share their expertise on a variety of health-related topics, with a focus on the importance of a healthy breakfast.

My NOKIA is back : Finally, Nokia 8 Android smart phone arrives in Philippines

I still have the memory of my old Nokia cellphone units. It lasted for years and actually served me well. Such a great joy to hear that my favorite brand has came up with the latest...

Ending weeks of anticipation, HMD Global unveils Nokia’s new flagship smartphone, the Nokia 8, today at Manila Private House Club, Taguig.

Nokia 8’s entry into the Philippine market reflects Nokia’s vision of growing its smartphone business in the country, the fastest-growing smartphone market in the ASEAN. The Philippine launch comes on the heel of a successful global launch that demonstrates continued support for the brand.

“The Philippines has always been a strong market for Nokia. Filipinos, particularly those in the provinces, have a strong affinity for Nokia phones, which have always delivered on quality, reliability and innovation. We want to continue broadening and deepening our reach here, especially in untapped provinces that need high-quality mobile communication technologies,” said Shannon Mead, HMD Global Country Manager, Philippines.

HMD Global, the new home of Nokia phones, is looking to position Nokia as the go-to smartphone for Filipinos across the different market segments. “Nokia will continue to leverage quality and innovation to serve the thriving smartphone market,” Mead shared.

Nokia 8 forerunner Android smartphone

The Nokia 8 brings mobile communication technology to a new level and marks three world firsts for Android smartphones.

The phone features the first-ever Dual-Sight camera, allowing users to capture or livestream moments in both first- and second-person perspective. The 13MP front and rear cameras, co-developed with ZEISS, can run simultaneously and show images in split-screen mode, inspiring everyone to “Be less Selfie, be more Bothie.”

“This marks the coming of Nokia on Android, which is clearly the dominant OS with its 94 percent share of the global market. Nokia phones are future-proof to support new Android OS versions, making it even easier for users to optimize the phone’s features and functions,” Mead said.

The Nokia 8 smartphone pioneers the use of OZO audio to deliver immersive 360-degree spatial surround sound. This high-fidelity playback complements 4K videos and brings Hollywood technology in mobile technology.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 835-powered phone features a seamless unibody with a full-length graphite shielded copper cooling pipe for better heat dissipation, especially when running demanding applications.  It runs on Android Nougat 7.1.1 and comes in single- and dual-SIM variants.

“Nokia’s latest innovation reflects its commitment to connect people with technology that breaks new ground while reinforcing old foundations. The Nokia 8 combines premium design and powerful performance to enable smartphone users to create and share experiences in many new ways. We are excited about the positive feedback about Nokia smartphones and look forward to engaging the country’s robust mobile phone market even more in the coming days,” said Mead.

Making smartphone technology more accessible

With its business principle anchored on the belief that every Filipino should have access to the best mobile communication technology, Nokia offers a wide range of smartphones to address the needs of the different market segments. This means a smartphone for every user type, need and pricing considerations.

The Nokia 3, optimized for everyday use, comes in a precision-machine aluminum frame to ensure a strong build unheard of in the affordable smartphone segment. It features a 5-inch Gorilla Glass HD screen and 8MP cameras. LTE 4G connectivity allows fast download and streaming, supported by 16GB of internal storage. A microSD card slot allows up to 128GB capacity.

The Nokia 5, which packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 octa-core processor, has 2GB RAM and 16GB storage expandable to 128GB. It features a 13MP camera with dual-tone flash and a 5.2-inch HD screen. A fingerprint sensor provides extra security and convenience.

Another octa-core smartphone, the Nokia 6, has a 5.5-inch full-HD in-cell hybrid display with a wide viewing angle and wide color reproduction for a fully immersive entertainment. This is complemented by dual speakers with Dolby Atmos and a smart amplifier. It has a 16MP main and an 8MP front cameras and 32GB internal storage capacity.
