Wear & Care: The Electrolux Guide to Keeping Clothes looking newer for longer

UltimateCare™ 900 Washing Machine

Wear it well without wearing it out! That is the fashion philosophy shared by Electrolux, a leading global appliance company from Sweden, when it comes to clothes. You don’t need a lot of clothes to look stylish – just give them some TLC, especially when doing your laundry.

To help keep your clothes in the best shape, check out these tips from Electrolux FashionCare Ambassador Rajo Laurel, along with the FashionCare Council members Amina Aranaz-Alunan and Bianca King. From washing to storing, these practical hacks will help keep your clothes looking new for longer.

1. Check the Label
Acclaimed fashion designer Rajo Laurel shared that his number one rule when it comes to caring for clothes is to check the care label, which teaches you everything from the temperature, the kind of cycle and even instructions on drying, bleaching and ironing. And if those laundry symbols look like hieroglyphics to you? Executive director and teacher of SoFA Design Institute, and Creative Director of fashion accessories and bag label ARANÁZ Amina Aranaz-Alunan’s practical tip: print out a guide that explains the symbols for laundry instructions.

2. Caring for White Shirts and Tops
A staple in anyone’s wardrobe, the classic white tee is a great piece to build your wardrobe around. It’s easy to dress up and down, going from casual to business-chic. To keep your white shirt looking new, before washing, unbutton your shirt including its cuffs and collar. Check the label recommendations for care guidelines. Use a laundry detergent that contains bleach to really make your whites, white.

And if your white shirt or polo gets wrinkled easily, check if your washing machine has a Steam or Vapour Care setting - this relaxes the fibres and removes odours to bring back that soft, fresh feel to your white top.

3. Caring for Colours
Having coloured pieces is a great way to make a look pop but they are also prone to fading faster than dark or white clothing. To help make sure your coloured garments don’t lose their vibrance, sort your garments by colour before doing the laundry. Bright clothes such as purples, reds and oranges can be washed together, so can bright blues and greens. If a colour stands out on its own, consider washing it alone. Then check the garment for stains and apply a small amount of liquid detergent to the stain and shake gently in water. Turn your garments inside out to minimize rubbing of fibres. Choose a low temperature and avoid hot settings that can cause fading. You can also use a gentle wash cycle.

4. Caring for Jeans
Denim is durable but to make them last longer, especially the coloured and printed denims or anything with a deep indigo wash, you need to give them extra special care. The key to a long life is to wash at a low temperature and avoid over washing. First off, be sure to wear your jeans for as long as possible before they are first washed to give them a comfortable shape and a natural fade. Separate your jeans from white or other brightly coloured clothes because they might bleed colour. Turn them inside out before washing as well.

5. Dealing with Stains
The FashionCare Council members all share that it’s best to deal with stains immediately. Soak or try to wash them off right away. For food and wine stains, Laurel shares that he uses salt and soda water on the stains before washing as these help to lift the stains.

Here are some other helpful tips to remove common stains. For ink stains, blot the stained area with alcohol using a clean cloth and rinse thoroughly.  For coffee stains, first try using cold water through the back of the stain for 10-15 minutes. If the stain is not fully removed, use liquid laundry detergent and a little cold water, or try using dish washing liquid. Gently rub the liquid detergent or dish washing liquid with your thumb to loosen the stain for about five minutes.

6. Proper Storage
The FashionCare Council members also shared that storage can play a role in keeping clothes looking their best. Model and actress, Bianca King advised people to keep their closets neat so you have a full account of everything you own and to know which items should be hung or folded (if it’s a knit or weave). And speaking of hanging, Laurel and Aranz-Alunan both mentioned the importance of using proper hangers - Laurel mentioned avoiding those without foam defense as they could ruin the shape of clothes.

Another advantage of keeping a closet organized is it could help you plan your wardrobe – you can rotate your pieces, as shared by Laurel, to help prolong their life.

7. Find the Right Washing Machine
When asked about effective and reliable ways of caring for clothes, the FashionCare Council agreed that the right washing machine can also help extend the life of your clothes – like the Electrolux UltimateCare™ 900 Front Load Washing Machine, which comes with innovative features that help keep your favourites looking new for longer, even up to 1 year later.  It comes with SensorWash™ which detects dirt and adjusts cycle times to ensure that clothes receive the perfect wash, and UltraMix™ technology that activates detergents so that you can wash at lower temperatures to reduce colour fading*. It also comes with Vapour Care, which finishes the wash cycle with a soft spray of vapour to remove up to 99.9% of allergens and germs**

The UltimateCare900 is also WiFi-connected and through the Electrolux Life App, you can remotely control your appliance, allowing you to choose wash or dry programs and receive notifications on the go. The Care Advisor also provides intuitive guidance to assist you in expertly cleaning up to 48 fabrics and 40 of the most common stains.

King, who wanted a washing machine smart enough to help her decide how to wash her laundry, talked about how her Electrolux UltimateCare™ Front Load Washing Machine “makes my life simpler and actually makes me look forward to doing my laundry!”

Meanwhile Aranaz-Alunan enthused, “I love the features, especially that I can oversee the washing process even when I’m not at home.”

Laurel, who has been using the UltimateCare™ Washing Machine for over a year, said that, “Ever since I invested in my Electrolux UltimateCare™ Washing Machine, my clothes really last longer, and I feel better about it. My clothes are also a big part of my investment, my character and my personality and this has helped me improve a lot and made me so much happier!”

Quick and Healthy Back-to-school Baon Ideas Your Kids Will Love

School season is here! Going back-to-school means excitement for kids but can be stressful for busy moms as meal planning comes into play. Preparing baon for your kids can be a struggle considering both their picky tastes and the nutritional content they need to grow strong and healthy. That is why Swedish appliance brand Electrolux is here with a few tricks up their sleeve to help moms prepare yummy dishes with vegetables that kids will love.

Check out these recipes from the Electrolux Life App to help spark ideas for healthy and delicious baon for your kids.

Cheese it up!

Since a lot of kids are not fond of eating vegetables, this Kid-Friendly Chicken & Broccoli Quesadilla recipe is a great way to add veggies in a way kids will enjoy. Start by placing Flour Tortillas on a plate, top it with cheddar cheese, add chicken and broccoli florets. Top it with another layer of Flour Tortillas then place it in a toaster oven at 350ºF and cook for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown. Cut the quesadilla using a pizza cutter, wait for it to cool and it’s ready to be packed!

Potatoes are usually a crowd pleaser so why not make the most of your leftover mashed potatoes by making Spinach and Cheddar Potato Cakes.

Simply mix together the egg, frozen spinach, seasoned salt, onion powder and ground black pepper in a medium bowl. Add the mashed potatoes, cheddar cheese, breadcrumbs, and fresh chives. Mix it well until breadcrumbs have been absorbed. Form a scoop of the potato mixture into patties and fry the patties in a non-stick frying pan until golden brown. For the sauce, stir together sour cream and fresh dill and season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve the dip alongside the cakes!

Turning Japanese

Bring a Japanese flavor to your kid’s lunch with Teriyaki Pork Rolls with strips of green beans and carrots. In a pot of salted water, bring to a boil the thin strips of green beans, sliced carrot, and bell pepper for 2 mins. Once cooked, strain and dry with paper towel then set aside.

To make the sauce, mix soy sauce, white granulated sugar, and water in a small bowl and set aside. Take one of the thin pork cutlets and dust it with all-purpose flour on both sides. Add three of each of the green beans, carrot slices, and red bell pepper slices on the cutlet, season it with salt and pepper to taste. Then roll the pork and close it with toothpicks. Fry the pork until golden brown and remove toothpicks. Add the sauce, continue cooking for another 1-2 minutes until sauce thickened and all sides of the pork are coated.

Healthy Sides

Put a new and healthier spin on your kid’s snack time with this recipe of Baked Zucchini Fries!

First, preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. Cut zucchini into fries-like size, no need to peel them. In a medium bowl, combine panko, parmesan, salt, paprika, and pepper. Place whisked eggs in a separate medium bowl, and the flour in a third medium bowl. Dip zucchini pieces into the flour, then the egg, then the panko. Dip zucchini pieces into the flour, then egg, then the panko. Once all zucchini are breaded, bake it for 15 to 20 minutes, or until golden and crispy. For the sauce, just combine the yogurt, cheese, mayonnaise, and chives to a food processor and blitz until smooth.

Preparing your kids’ healthy and tasty baon is easy with Electrolux kitchen appliances, like the Electrolux NutriFresh™ Inverter Refrigerators, which come with new features to keep produce fresh for longer. Creative and easy ways to eat more green

While we all know that eating more veggies is good for our health, finding fresh ways to incorporate it in our meals isn’t easy. That is why Swedish appliance brand Electrolux is here to share some creative and flavorful ways to add more greens to your diet.

Grow and glow with Green Smoothies

Green smoothies are ideal for breakfast as blended vegetables retain more of their fiber content, making you feel full for longer.

Kickstart your day with Kimberly Snyder’s Glowing Green Smoothie, packed with lots of greens, and fruit to help balance that “green taste”. First, core and slice the apple and pear. Combine the romaine lettuce with the cold, filtered water and begin processing on low. Next, add the apple and pear slices, celery, fresh spinach, and banana. Lastly, add the juice of the lemon, ice, and blend until smooth. Enjoy!

Spiralized veggies

Enjoy your pasta days the healthier way by swapping out your traditional noodles to veggie noodles. Try this Raw Vegan Creamy Zoodle recipe - start by soaking 1 cup of the dry roasted peanuts in water for 30 mins the  then drain it and bring it to a blend until creamy with the coconut milk and extra-virgin olive oil. Season it with Himalayan rock salt and ground black pepper to taste.

Then with a spiralizer, shred your zucchini into noodles. Chop up the remaining dry roasted peanuts. Toss your zoodles into a large bowl and dress it with the sauce. Add cherry tomatoes, top it off with the chopped peanuts, then stir it all together. You can refrigerate it until ready to serve or you can enjoy it immediately!

Bring in the Indian twist

From cauliflower rice to cauliflower crust pizzas, this versatile and palatable produce seems to have no limit to its culinary potential. Another way to enjoy this powerhouse vegetable is to use it in a curry – bring an Indian flavor to your table this Cauliflower Mushroom Curry.

For the masala, sauté the medium slices of onions, tomato, garlic, and the ginger for 5 minutes. Allow it to cool and take it in a blender and add salt, granulated sugar, and chili powder. Blend until it reaches its paste-like consistency. For the curry, sauté the remaining onion. Once cooked, add mushroom and cauliflower and sauté for 10mins. Add the sauce and simmer for 10-15 mins until the curry reaches the desire consistency.

Healthy Sides

Macaroni salad is a typical deli side dish served in potlucks, picnics and other get togethers. Give it a healthier twist by dishing up a Vegan Macaroni Salad.

For the dressing, whisk together the vegan mayo and unsweetened almond milk, dill pickle, pickle juice, fresh dill, lemon juice, granulated sugar, nutritional yeast, yellow mustard, sriracha, sea salt, paprika, garlic powder, ground black pepper, and mix well. Refrigerate until ready to use. Then in a large bowl, combine cooled elbow macaroni with the dressing. Add the broccoli florets, carrot, celery, scallion, red bell pepper, and smoked tofu, and stir well. For bbest flavor, refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or until chilled, before serving. Serve and enjoy!
