Is it ok to share to your good friend your struggles in life?

Yes! It is okay to share your struggles with a good friend. In fact, that’s what friends are often there for, to listen, support, and walk with you through the tough stuff. Being open can deepen your connection and lighten your emotional load.

But… there is a line.

If their responses start feeling judgmental, dismissive, or if they make you feel worse instead of supported, it might be time to pause and reassess the dynamic. Here are a few signs it might be time to stop oversharing:

  • You leave the conversation feeling more drained, judged, or insecure

  • They use your vulnerabilities against you (even subtly)

  • They consistently change the subject, minimize your feelings, or compare your pain

  • You're doing all the sharing, and they offer little emotional support in return

Healthy friendships have room for real talk, but they also have boundaries, mutual respect, and emotional safety. If someone makes you feel judged rather than understood, it’s okay to pull back and protect your peace.
