JSKILLS and Pilipinas Aguilas Dominated Red Bull Half Court National Finals, Headed for World Finals This December

Manila’s JSKILLS and Pilipinas Aguilas emerged victorious as national champions at the Red Bull Half Court 2026 Philippines National Finals in Bigger Pictures, Mandaluyong, on June 13. Following the qualifiers across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, the Philippines’ top streetball teams collided at the recently held National Finals, where pace, chemistry, and grit defined every possession.

With their championship wins, both teams earned the right to represent the country on a global stage at the Red Bull Half Court 2026 World Finals in Manila this December.

“We want them to see that it’s not only about the game. It’s about the chemistry, the love for the game. Basically, I tell everybody, in the Philippines, basketball is like a religion. Everybody plays it, and everybody loves it. And to represent that, it’s a very good thing,” said Fubara Whyte from JSKILLS.

The games kept the audience on the edge of their seats as teams competed in Red Bull Half Court’s fast-paced 3on3 format, which features a 10-minute game clock, a 12-second shot clock, the signature ‘Own the Court’ bonus, and Three Point Shots from designated spots on the court. The ‘Own the Court’ bonus awards six points to the highest-scoring team in the cumulative tally, while the Three-Point Shots rule gives three points for shots made from specific scoring zones.

High Stakes and High Intensity at the National Finals

The men’s final championship matchup between JSKILLS and HoopJeep HCG delivered one of the tightest games of the tournament, with both squads trading baskets deep into the closing minutes. A crucial defensive stand and late conversion at the rim helped JSKILLS pull away to secure a 15-12 victory and claim the national title.

On the women’s side, Pilipinas Aguilas showcased composure and teamwork in a hard fought final against Uratex Dream. In a buzzer beating moment, Pilipinas Aguilas took over the game with a two-point winning shot, eventually sealing an 11-9 win to become Women’s National Champions.

“We just came in a lot more focused, this being our last chance to win. We all were ready to give our 110% to win, even more so than our qualifier games because everything was on the line,” said Elizabeth Means of Pilipinas Aguilas.

“This matchup was super tough because we lost to them before. We really just focused
on switching hard and locking them down on defense,” added teammate Camille
Malagar.

Uratex Tibay (Women’s Team), Lady Maroons (Women’s Team), SGF Kings (Men’s Team), and Filipino Mixtape (Men’s Team) of Manila; Gimcuad-Ninz (Women’s Team) and Team BOKKI (Men’s Team) of Cebu, and three-time winner Coaches Corner and two-time winner Davao Agilas of Davao electrified the courts with intense battles.
Courtside Energy Before Tip-Off

Before the National Finals tipped off, the venue already felt like a celebration of Philippine streetball culture through a series of pre-game activities that set the tone for the day.

The Last Man Standing audience activation opened the action as guests showcased their shooting skills in front of a lively crowd. Meanwhile, players from the men's and women's teams battled it out in the Two-Point Shootout, while Air David, Joe Gomez De Liano, and Shawn Jackson thrilled spectators during the Dunk Contest, bringing high-flying energy and excitement to the National Finals.

The Hoop Trike, the latest addition to HoopJeepney’s lineup of mobile basketball experience, brought the game beyond the court with a modified tricycle fitted with a basketball hoop. It spotlighted streetball’s grassroots spirit and accessibility, turning everyday spaces into playable courts.

Together, these activities enhanced the atmosphere throughout the National Finals,
creating an immersive streetball experience that celebrated skill, community, and shared
passion for basketball.

Philippine Basketball Headed to the Global Stage

Beyond the competition, the Red Bull Half Court 2026 Philippines National Finals highlighted the passion that continues to fuel basketball culture across the country.

From teammates rallying each other to courtside fans turning every possession into a significant moment, the event reflected the community, pride, and intensity that define why the Philippines is dubbed the Capital of Streetball.

Pilipinas Aguilas is headed to the World Finals motivated, especially since the game is happening on their home turf. “There is pressure because we want to show up for the Philippines and represent the Philippines well. But also, it’s motivating because all our family and friends are gonna be here to support us, and we’ll have all the extra support and encouragement,” sharedTrina Guytingco.

JSKILLS is fueled with the same drive as they prepare for the World Championship. “We are much more motivated now, knowing that the entire country is rooting for us at the World Finals. We will prepare, and we’ll give our best to make sure we are representing the Philippines as best as we can,” said TH Tumalip.

With JSKILLS and Pilipinas Aguilas earning their spots at the Red Bull Half Court 2026 World Finals in Manila this December, the Philippines now prepares to bring its unique brand of streetball energy onto the global stage.

5 vaccines to get when you’re 50 and up

While vaccinations are usually associated with babies and children, adults need them just as much. This is especially true for those who are already in their golden years as their immune systems naturally weaken over time. That’s where vaccines come in to support their health.

“Vaccines were created to help you build resistance against illnesses that could land you in the hospital, render you disabled, or threaten your life,” says Ryan Raymond Y. Bautista, MD of top hospital in the Philippines, Makati Medical Center (MakatiMed). “As we grow older, our immune system weakens, whether due to age or diseases like cancer, autoimmune disorders, and HIV. Vaccinations not only protect us; they protect others too by preventing the spread of contagious viral and bacterial infections.”

MakatiMed recommends these five shots for those in their 50s and above.

Flu vaccine. While news of a fast spreading “super flu” at the beginning of the year had everyone scrambling to have themselves vaccinated, adults are encouraged to get their influenza shot annually, particularly between February and June, the months right before flu season, which in the Philippines happens from June to November. Constantly mutating viruses coupled with older adults’ declining immune system make the flu vaccine a necessity for seniors and the immunocompromised.

Marked by a high fever, chills, aching bones, a sore throat, and runny nose, influenza is transmitted through respiratory droplets (when one coughs, sneezes, or talks) and by touching contaminated surfaces then touching the eyes, nose, or mouth. “Though you can expect to get better in about a week, the flu can progress to pneumonia, bronchitis, and the worsening of pre-existing conditions like asthma and heart disease,” reminds Dr. Bautista.

RSV vaccine. If respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is often mistaken for the common cold, that’s because they share similar symptoms—runny nose or nasal congestion and persistent cough. The difference lies in RSV’s two telltale signs: rapid or difficulty breathing (note how the chest pulls inward with every breath and how a patient finds comfort in sitting rather than lying down) and wheezing. Complications include pneumonia, asthma, and middle ear infections.

“The RSV vaccine is available locally through hospitals and private clinics,” reveals Dr. Bautista. “Because it’s not considered an annual vaccine, at-risk adults aged 50-74 years old and the elderly aged 75 and up can do with a single dose.”

Pneumococcal vaccine. Streptococcus pneumoniae bacteria does not only cause pneumonia; it can lead to other fatal diseases like meningitis and sepsis. To protect yourself, get two types of pneumococcal vaccines: Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccines (or PCVs, which include PCV13, PCV15, and PCV20) and Pneumococcal Polysaccharide Vaccine (or PPSV23, which prevents you from getting 23 types of pneumococcal bacteria).

“The pneumococcal vaccine is recommended for adults aged 50 years old and above,” says Dr. Bautista. “I advise those who are immunocompromised to receive shots for these vaccines, and those aged 65 and up who are in relatively good health to get one dose of PVC20, or one dose of PCV15 followed by one dose of PPSV23.”

Shingles vaccine. The risk of getting shingles increases with age, but overcoming its trademark burning, pus-filled rashes on the torso or face doesn’t guarantee permanent immunity. Though rare, a second bout of shingles is possible.

“Given in two doses, the shingles vaccine protects you from the varicella-zoster virus by nearly 100 percent, and by about 85 percent four years after your shots,” explains Dr. Bautista. “In case you get shingles again despite the vaccines, expect to experience less severe symptoms.”

Tdap vaccine. Short for Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis (or whooping cough), Tdap is a booster shot first administered to kids from ages 7 to 18, then every 10 years to adults.

All three are serious diseases. Tetanus, which affects the nervous system, comes from a bacteria found in soil, dirt, and animal manure. Once in the respiratory system, the bacteria of diphtheria make breathing and swallowing a challenge and destroy the heart, kidneys, and nerves. And the bacteria of pertussis triggers coughing that pose a serious health threat to the elderly.

“The Tdap vaccine can protect you against tetanus and diphtheria by 95 percent, and pertussis by 70 percent,” says Dr. Bautista. “Best of all, it is convenient. You do not need to have the shot annually, just every decade after one shot.”

Here's How the OPPO A6s Stays Fast and Smooth All Day

A slow phone can disrupt more than just your day—it can interrupt work, break your focus, and turn simple tasks into frustrating experiences. As apps become more demanding and users spend more time on their devices than ever before, reliable performance is no longer a premium feature; it's an everyday necessity.

With the OPPO A6s, OPPO brings a performance-focused experience to the A Series lineup, combining intelligent system optimization, and advanced cooling technology to help users stay productive, entertained, and connected throughout the day.

Built for Everyday Performance

The OPPO A6s is designed to deliver smooth and reliable performance throughout the day, keeping up with the demands of modern lifestyles. It is capable of allowing you to attend virtual meetings, work on school projects, stream their favorite shows, stay connected with friends, or unwind with a few rounds of mobile gaming. It’s basically a smartphone built to provide a consistently responsive experience from morning to night.

The OPPO A6s also has a generous memory configuration and RAM Expansion, allowing users to convert unused storage into virtual RAM when needed. This helps improve multitasking performance, enabling smoother app switching and better responsiveness, particularly for users who frequently keep multiple applications running in the background. This allows you to switch between video calls, editing photos, managing work documents, or simply keeping several tabs open.

Staying Cool Under Pressure with the SuperCool VC System

Powerful performance is important, but maintaining that performance throughout the day is what truly makes a difference. From back-to-back video calls and hours of streaming to endless scrolling and juggling multiple apps, today's smartphones are expected to keep pace with increasingly demanding routines.

To help deliver a consistently smooth experience, the OPPO A6s is equipped with the SuperCool VC System, an advanced cooling solution designed to effectively manage heat during extended use. By keeping temperatures under control, the device can sustain its performance for longer, helping users stay productive, entertained, and connected without interruptions.

Intelligent Optimization with AI GameBoost 2.0

Beyond everyday productivity and entertainment, the OPPO A6s also caters to users who enjoy mobile gaming in their downtime. The device comes equipped with AI GameBoost 2.0, an intelligent optimization system that dynamically allocates resources to help stabilize frame rates, reduce lag, and maintain smoother gameplay. By analyzing device performance in real time, AI GameBoost 2.0 helps ensure that gaming sessions remain responsive, even during demanding moments.

While mobile gaming serves as a bonus for many users, the technology behind AI GameBoost 2.0 contributes to overall system optimization, helping deliver smoother interactions across a variety of applications.

A More Reliable Experience from Morning to Night

These Father’s Day Moments are Just a Tap Away with GCash and Ayala Malls

The best family moments are not always the grandest ones. What starts as a simple “kain tayo” after errands can easily turn into staying at the mall a little longer. Mom spots something she likes while window shopping. Dad insists he’s “just looking” at gadgets but ends up checking every aisle. Someone suggests coffee after lunch, while someone else wants to catch a movie before heading home. Before anyone realizes it, what was supposed to be a quick mall trip turns into an entire day spent together.

For many Filipinos, these are the moments that end up mattering the most during Father’s Day celebrations. Not necessarily the extravagant, expensive plans, but the simple days that feel easy, warm, and shared.

This season, GCash is making these everyday moments feel even more rewarding with Tap it, Win it!, its latest promo that turns simple mall spending into chances to win exciting prizes when using GCash Tap to Pay, in partnership with Ayala Malls nationwide. GCash Tap to Pay is a contactless payment feature that lets users simply tap their NFC-enabled Android smartphones to pay in-store — no cash, cards, or QR scanning needed. Designed for a faster, more seamless shopping experience, it offers a quick, secure, and hassle-free way to pay, making every checkout feel smoother and more convenient for today’s on-the-go shoppers.

With Tap to Pay, celebrating family moments becomes smoother, easier, and more rewarding. Like buying Dad a thoughtful gadget, or gathering everyone for a family feast, every tap adds a little extra excitement to the experience.

Father’s Day Starter Pack

Meaningful celebrations don’t always need elaborate plans—all it takes is spending quality time together. Here are five mall date ideas to celebrate Dads with GCash Tap to Pay at Ayala Malls TriNoma:

Start with a Feel-Good Meal

Whether it’s brunch after Sunday errands, merienda between shopping stops, or a full family dinner, food always finds its way to the center of every celebration. Sharing favorite dishes together often becomes the moment everyone remembers most.

Drop by the GCash Central Hub at Ayala Malls TriNoma

Between meals and shopping stops, swing by the GCash Hub Kiosk at Ayala Malls Trinoma to discover even more ways to maximize the GCash experience. Get real-time customer support and assistance, learn about the ongoing Tap it, Win it! Raffle Promo, and print a GCash card on the spot. Plus, using GCash Offline Payments–Tap to Pay, GCash Visa Card, Scan to Pay & Watch Pay, unlocks exclusive rewards: ₱50 off mall cinema tickets with a minimum spend of ₱500, and score freebies for every ₱1,000 purchase.

Find the Perfect “Just Because” Gift

Thoughtful gifts do not always need an occasion attached to them. It could also be finally helping Dad pick out something practical he’d never buy for himself.

Treat Them to a Wellness Break

Our parents rarely slow down for themselves, which is why a massage, skincare treatment, or even a quick salon visit can already feel like a thoughtful gesture.

Make It an Experience, Not Just a Trip

Some of the best family moments happen between plans. A movie after dinner, a spontaneous bowling game, or trying something new together can turn an ordinary mall day into a memorable one.

End the Day with a Simple Moment

The best part of the day is slowing down before heading home—walking around the mall a little longer, grabbing coffee, or browsing weekend pop-ups while conversations continue naturally.

Throughout all these little moments, cashless convenience quietly becomes part of the experience too. Paying for meals, movie tickets, gifts, or coffee runs feels smoother with GCash Tap to Pay, making celebrations feel lighter and easier without the hassle of bringing cash or waiting for change.

From “Libre Ko Na” to “May Panalo Pa”

Every tap now comes with something extra, turning a simple “libre ko na” into “may panalo pa!” With every minimum spend of ₱350 using GCash Tap to Pay at Ayala Malls, users earn raffle entries for a chance to win exciting prizes. One lucky winner can drive home a hybrid BYD Seal 5 DM-i, while others can win up to ₱100,000 in GCash credits.

Designed for fast, secure, and seamless payments, GCash Tap to Pay makes mall moments more convenient—perfect for on-the-go celebrations, quick family errands, and spontaneous treat days.

Joining is easy. Simply click the “Tap It to Win It” icon on the GCash Dashboard or access the promo via GDeals and tap the promo card. From there, agree to the terms and conditions and submit the entry to complete registration, then use GCash Tap to Pay with a minimum spend of ₱350 from May 7 to June 21, 2026, at Ayala Malls to earn raffle entries. A chapter a day keeps the doctor away

Any bookworm will tell you that reading a book is a pleasant distraction from the stresses of daily living, a chance to relax and lose yourself to the characters and plot of a page-turning mystery thriller or swoon-worthy romance. Few people realize that both your mind and body benefit when this favorite pastime becomes a regular part of your routine.

Full-brain workout

“Experts describe reading a book as a full-brain workout,” says Cymbeline Perez-Santiago, MD, Neurologist and Head of the Neurology Unit of top hospital in the Philippines, Makati Medical Center (MakatiMed).

“In a study conducted in 2020, researchers noted that increased gray matter in the left superior temporal cortex part of the brain, which is crucial to cognitive function, is linked to better reading performance among children. For the older generation, keeping the mind engaged through book reading delays cognitive decline and positively impacts physical and mental health.”

A 2017 survey that tracked over 3,000 adults in a 12-year period discovered that those who specifically read books had a 20 percent reduction in mortality. In a study conducted by Yale, people added an average of 23 months to their lifespan when they read 30 minutes a day.

“Reading, of course, broadens one’s vocabulary and knowledge, which proves helpful in entrance exams, job opportunities, and life in general,” adds Dr. Perez-Santiago. “Moreover, it develops one’s ability to empathize—to put oneself in other people’s shoes. Experts call this ‘theory of mind,’ or skills needed to build, navigate, and maintain social relationships.”

Why books?

What is it about a book that makes our mind work differently? Reading words (as opposed to looking at pictures or watching a video) prompts us to use our imagination to supply the imagery that corresponds with the sentences.

“Books, particularly long-form content, train us to focus and pay attention at a time when the digital world’s fast-paced, short-form content has reduced our attention span,” explains Dr. Perez-Santiago. “Reading books also strengthens memory, challenges your analytical thinking, and makes you a better writer.”

But who has the time to pick up a book these days? In a national readership survey commissioned by the National Book Development Board in 2023, the number of Filipino adults who read non-school books in the past 12 months was 42 percent—a major plunge from the 80 percent who read books in 2017.

“The trick,” Dr. Perez-Santiago points out, “is to make it an enjoyable experience, something to look forward to.”

Start by always having a book on hand. Keep a book in your car, your bag, or your desk drawer at work. “When you’re waiting in the bank, at a doctor’s appointment, or for a friend to arrive for a meeting, pass the time away by getting in a few pages,” says Dr. Perez-Santiago.

Set doable goals. Does the sight of a thick pocketbook intimidate you? Pick a quick read or go for an anthology of short stories. “They can help you build your attention span and ability to focus as you work your way to reading longer stories,” Dr. Perez-Santiago recommends. “Also, there are no rules that you should finish a book in a week, or that you should finish one book before starting another. Read several books all at once and go at your own pace. As proven by studies, even a few minutes of reading can do wonders for your health.”
